SUMMER 2003 Page-4

Monday dawned clear with sunny blue skies. A perfect day to do some sight seeing around the Anchorage area. So after turning in our rented motor home and picking up the mini van the family headed out.
Amanda accompanied Bill with out guest to visit Mt Alyeska. A ski resort about 35 miles south of Anchorage.

Riding up in the Tram to the restaurant are Lynn,
Andrea, Robert and Bill.
It feels rather strange going right up the side
of the mountain, but very beautiful.

This is a view of the Alyeska Lodge and Hotel, as seen from the restaurant.

Being from Arizona, Lynn wants a closer look at the snow still lingering on the mountain.

Here we have Amanda, Alaska born and raised and dressed for summer. And Lynn coming from Arizona, still feels the chill of the snow.

Then it's lunch time and everyone needs a hot meal to continue enjoying the sights from this elevation. Above is Robert and Andrea and below is Lynn and Bill.

After lunch it's time for some more pictures, but Robert needs to make some adjustments to his camera. Bill looks on and thinks "it would be too bad to drop the camera from this height"!

Andrea, Lynn and Bill on the viewing deck.
It is incredible how far you can see from this elevation.

Parasailing is a favorite past time during the summer months when one can not ski. Here you see a red one drifting down the mountain. On the left is a close up of the same one - showing how the person holds his legs and holds on to the cords to guide it.

A yellow parasail, which seems to be further away. You can see Turnagain Arm in the distance with the mountains on the other side. Certainly seems to be lots of people on the mountain today.

Time to get off this mountain and head for Anchorage. Another member of the family, Stephanie, is arriving tonight to join us for the rest of the visit.
But first one last shot - this is the Tram taking a group down the mountain.

Just before arriving in Anchorage, there is time for a quick stop at Potters Marsh. Birds of all species come to the reserve to nest in the spring/summer. There is also a long viewing ramp built out over the marsh, it is built over a small stream where one can usually see a salmon or two.
