| Two men...one of them a Native American...were walking down a busy street in New York City. All the noises of city life...the cars...the people...and all the other sounds that go along with a busy metropolis. They walked...talked...and took in the sights of the city. They had been walking quite awhile...and were in a particularily busy part of the city...when the Native man turned to the other man and said..."I hear a squirrel." The other man looked at him in disbelief and said..."how would you hear a squirrel with all of this noise?" The Native man didnt answer...he was looking and listening in all directions...he stood very still turning only his head...finally seeming to make a decision...he worked his way across the street...the other man on his heels. After crossing the street he traveled a short way down the street...coming to a tree in a planter...sure enough...there at the base of the tree was a squirrel. The other man turned to him with total amazement on his face and asked..."how did you ever hear this squirrel with all the noise here?" In response...the Native man reached into his pocket...pulled out a few coins and let them drop on the sidewalk. Heads all around them turned...the Native man looked at the other man and said..."its all in what you are listening for." Do you hear the squirrel...or the money? |
