With a helpin hand from Lorissa
The people in a village...were told there was a possibility of a flood...they were asked to leave their homes and head for higher ground. One woman had seen this happen many times without a flood...so she decided to wait and see. She found herself a spot on a large stone where she could watch the river...she loved the rain...and could sit in it for hours. She sat a long time...all the while the rain beatin down and makin the river rise. By the time she began to realize that this time there would be a flood...the river had swolen and cut her off from the land and escape. She raised her head and said...Grandfather...please save this child...I have been silly and waited too long to leave on my own. She no more than got the words out...when she heard the voice of Great Spirit...and was told she would have the help she needed. Not long after that...two young men in a canoe stopped where she was sittin...one held out his hand to help her into the canoe. She looked at them and said...I thank you so much for stoppin...but Grandfather told me he would save me...so I will wait for him. They went on their way...and before long...the river had risen so...that she had to take refuge in a tree. It wasnt long after that...that a second canoe stopped to see if they could help...again reachin out to help her in...and gettin the same response as the first...they too moved on. The rain got harder...and the river rose fast...soon she found she was in the top branches and feelin the water at her feet. A third canoe stopped...and the men inside begged her to get in...but she told them that Grandfather said that he would save her...she would not go...and they had to move on as well. It came to be that the water finally rose over her head...she tired finally and lost the fight. When she reached the other side...she went right to Grandfather...and not to happily asked...why did you not save me Grandfather...when I asked...you told me that you would...but here I am. He smiled at her with a radient smile and said...but my child...I tried...I sent you 3 canoes.
