This has to be the definitive Aretha compilation out there. If you ever wanted to hear Aretha's "golden day" when she was at Atlantic Records then this is one to pick up. It has almost every single track she came out with on the label. The only regret is that they didn't include the later albums. I know the critics shot down these albums but i think they are pretty good even though the material was flimsy. I think these guys need to listen to these later albums because there are some good tracks on them. But getting back to this box set. I got this when i turned 18. I always knew about her Atlantic stuff but i never really got into it that much. I had her 30 GREATEST HITS double cd when i was young and loved it. This collection by far surpasses that one. You get many of other album tracks that maybe you've never heard before.
There are some superb liner notes in here also. They are by her collegues at Atlantic and there's also some of her quotes in the book as well.
A complete discography of her albums and singles at Atlantic. I looked at the singles and found some unreleased songs on the b-sides that i think need to see the light of day maybe if I find them on ebay I'll get them.
This is a great collection to get someone with an Aretha fetish and also for any soul fanatic.
Aretha has graced my life and i am forever grateful to her and many other artsists as well.
