I Won't Cry

I wasn't there
When you said goodbye
I miss you so much
But I won't cry

When I was young
You taught me things
I felt so happy
My heart would sing

You got really sick
You knew it was time
No matter what
You were always kind

Your were very brave
Right to the end
You'll always be
My very best friend

So now you're gone
Only you know why
I'll carry on
But I won't cry

This is one of the poems I wrote right after my grandma died. I had just come back from a bible camp and my mom was waiting for mme and told me grandma just died. I didn't say anything until I saw our youth pastor and started to cry. I told them and they prayed for me and told me to be brave. I had just gotten paid also and I had to buy the cassette tape of the SET IT OFF Soundtrack. The song "Missing You" helped me get through the next few days and I got to be with family and go to the carnival. At the burial I sang one last time for my grandma. The song was "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" when i was done i looked toward the sky and smiled because I got to send my grandma home with my voice. I knew she was proud of me.
Another singer who got me through this time was Patti LaBelle. Her version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" had me in tears. There is one thing she always says that I hold true to. If there is someone that you love go home and tell them because tomorrow isn't promised. I think that applies to me a great deal because I never got to tel me grandma how much i loved her but now i tell everyone i come across that i love them. Thank you Patti. :-)
