No Nonsense plus Strange Tenants at
the Manzil

Are you happy?
We say yes. yes.
So Let's go dance crazy. What you do is this. You grab a couple of bands like No Nonsense and Strange Tenants plus a few ardent Melbourne fans - throw them on a bus and make a bee-line for Sydney. All in all it makes for some strange nonsense that never takes the smile from your face.
Last week at the Manzil room the dance music was coming on full and strong.
NoNonsense, a young raw nutty reggae/ska combination started at 11pm and the heads were bopping right away. It was all a matter of listening and jumping around. One guy who works at the Manzil five nights a week mentioned that it was like a breath of fresh air - and it was.
Fresher newer and more alive than a lot of bands I've seen in quite a while.
But you don't have much time to recover. The Tenants arrived. They play their own different brand of a similar music, not quite as raw but with a bigger and fuller sound - rampant with the same kind of fun.
Both bands do lots of originals plus a few covers and both are handled with professionalism and bulk., bulk enthusiasm.
The night was pure unadulterated pleasure.

Up tempo, up vibe, danceable and fun. It doesn't matter what you label the music as long as it makes your ears happy. Last Thursday at the Manzil I grinned a lot.
Both bands are relatively new to the scene in Melbourne but have built up a solid following there.
They don't always play the same bill. Strange Tenants have already released a 4 track 12" EP financed by themselves and released on their own Bluebeat label. But the boys thought that it was about time they headed up north. So they did it together.
I only hope that they will come back soon and infect us all with some more good humour and music.
A good dose of nonsense isn't so strange after all.
