Sci name=Tanichthys albonubes
Origin= White Cloud mountain, China
Temp=50-77 degrees. Prefers 68-75
Tanicthys albonubes. This fish is a great community tank inhabitant, and used to be known as the poor mans neon. Neons have now dropped below the price of white clouds however. Still, these fish are beautiful fish, and males displaying with there fins at full spread is breathtaking. They spawn readly and do not eat eggs or young. This fish is an excellent fish for the aquarium or pond. While considered dull by some the males in particular are quite colorful and can make a good attempt at competing with some small rainbowfish in beauty during a fight.
Tank Conditions
A rather shy fish, this fishes tank should be planted along the back and sides, allowing a stage in the center for the little gems to frolick in. Not many special requirements, but for spawning fine leaved plants should be available. This fish also does well and is prolific in small ponds....as long as no one is lurking to eat em!
Feeding
These fish will readily accept most foods. They are not good competitors however. I have found faster fish will steal the food from them as they are rather shy about feeding. In colony tanks with adults and young live foods suich as microworms etc. would be essential. Otherwise normal flake will serve just fine.
Breeding
Breeding is quite easy, though I never made a serious attempt at doing so. White clouds should be fed well before the attempt. Eggs are layed after courtship in plants. When the young hatch, they are very small, and should be fed infusoria. Later, they will graduate to microworms and BBs. These fish reproduce markedly well in a pond.
