Homeschool Girls' Soccer Team Wins State
The Kalamazoo Home School girls' soccer team beat host Lansing five nil in their first game, and edged Grand Rapids two to one in the second game to win the championship. In just the teams second season they put together a remarkable 14, 0, and 1 record under the leadership of coach Terry Florian. Holly Florian had a hat trick in the first game, while Lauren Fitzpatrick scored two goals, and Meghan Florian had the shutout. In the second game Holly Florian scored both goals for Kalamazoo.

Midnight 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
by Alex Haltom
Kalamazoo Home School Sports sponsored a Boys Midnight 3 on 3 basketball tournament on May 24th at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. It went from 9pm Friday night till 8am Saturday morning. About 50 players came to the tournament. On my team were Jimmy Norton, Kevin Little, and Josh Vanderhill. Even though we are 15 and 16 we had to play in the 17 and over division because one team didn't show. So we didn't win.

The approximate age spread was from the oldest in their 20s to the youngest in 8th grade. It was organized round robin, where you play everyone and whoever has the best record wins. I played 5 games between 9:30 and 2am.

It was fun to spend the night in the gym, which we weren't allowed to leave until 8am. Between games we watched DVDs (Shrek, Hoosiers, The One, Snowdogs), and the swimming pool was just downstairs and we went swimming.

A lot of kids brought sleeping bags and slept, but I stayed awake all night.

Two of The LeRoy brothers, Nate Kamphuis and Ryan Buurstra were on the winning team, and each one got a trophy.

The only incident was after the tournament. A group of girls thought it would be funny to TP one of the boy's cars, which they discovered when they left at three am, and they even put cat poop under the car handles so they got it on their hands when they opened the door. They retaliated with road kill on the front porch of two girls and a couple cans of sardines in another girl's car vents.
