About me
My name is Tiina, I'm 26 years old, live in Finland and study Finnish. I have drawn paper dolls since I was four and got eight or nine of them published in a children's magazine. I haven't the faintest idea of how many dolls I've got myself, as I throw old, broken ones away and redraw some as older, hiding previous versions in Redrawn box. There must be two or three thousand dolls, most of them made by me. My favourite paper doll artists are American Tom Tierney and Finnish Valpuri Pihlajamki. I started to draw dolls when I didn't actually play with them any more and my dolls have always been usual people, done normal things, worn normal clothes. No royalties, no movie stars, no ridiculous dressed animals.
A while back I became interested in fashion and copied outfits from photos. It's a great exercise for my dressmaking hobby (small business), drawing other designers' works helps me find out what kind of shape a certain cut gives the dress. Seeing others' work also inspires and gives me new ideas. I'm really into Italian children wear designers and have chosen their styles for my dolls.
The dolls on my site are from 2002 so it's a little old art. Anyway, I hope You'll enjoy them!
I didn't like dolls too much when I was a child. I did have a couple of baby dolls and some barbies but they had so unnatural looks and their clothes were mostly uninspired. Two years ago I was searching the internet for designer barbies when I happened to wander onto a doll store that sold Tonner dolls. I was very impressed! Although the dolls seemed a little too pricey for me, after pondering for a few days I decided to get a couple. Now there's almost twenty!
With the Tonner dolls I came to know the modern doll world and have made more and more discoveries. Last fall I got my first ball jointed doll and the second arrived on 18th March. BJD section of the site is now open for viewing, but still under construction.
When buying my first Tonners my intention was to sew all of their clothing myself. I haven't had too much time for that but have managed to make some garments. I do have plenty of ideas and plenty of fabrics to make them true ;-) Doll Clothing page is now accessible through Dolls section, but still under construction. I also plan to sell some of the creations on eBay in the future, so if interested, keep an eye on the clothing page!
