A few words From Seth Kaplan of the Conservation Law Foundation

While the issue is not settled yet the magnitude and importance of what happened today should not be understated. Mills has stated in the past that they won't stay if they are not welcome. They should be held to their word and they should listen to the elected mayor of the town that would be the host to the mall itself.

The pricetag of the mall, in terms of traffic and the changes it would make in surrounding communities is finally emerging and the Mayor has sensibly concluded "no sale."

The environmental review process will be the perfect time to ponder new alternative uses for the base, that conversation will only be truly possible if the deal with Mills is terminated. If it isn't then the MEPA review of alternatives will simply be an academic exercise.

The momentum has now completely shifted. The Mayor's announcements paves the way for a broad questioning of assumptions and a new approach. The citizens of the South Shore need to push to make sure that this wave of momentum continues.
