So. Weymouth and the Mall
TO THE EDITOR:
I am appalled at the accusations directed at Mr. Dunker and Mr. Goodwin. Let me
again state that I am vehemently opposed to the mall. I have stated in previous
articles that I foresee nothing good coming out of the mall.
I do see a traffic nightmare, sewer, water and safety problems. I can foresee
the destruction of life in So. Weymouth as I have known for the last 40-plus years
I have lived here. Most articles in favor of the mall have been written by people
who will not be affected by the problems. Why? Because they do not live in the
area.
Most of the people making the decisions do not live in this area. We are already
experiencing a big increase in traffic since the trains have begun running again,
and this is nothing like the abomination they are proposing for the base.
After the town meeting vote to allow the mall at the base, I knew it was time
to work to get rid of the town meeting form of government. I worked hard to achieve
this goal. No form of government could make a worst decision.
I honestly do not believe the meeting gave enough honest thought to the action
they took. I have stated before and I will state again, a decision of this magnitude
should have been voted on by the whole town, not a small group at a meeting.
I have been to the meeting and have talked to Mr. Dunker and Mr. Goodwin. At no
time has either man mentioned or proposed an airport. Their aim is the same as
mine and that is to stop the mall at all cost. If the committee had done more
to attract companies that would bring revenue in to the city instead of taking
and sending profit to their corporate headquarters.
I hope that the people who will be affected will not be swayed by character assassination
and false predictions that are being fed to us.
There is still time if we are all united and work to keep our town the way we
know. I urge all the people in the affected area to attend the meetings of the
COMPARE group and hear and see for yourself that these are honest and sincere
people dedicated to stop a very poorly thought out venture.
If we sit back and do nothing, then we deserve the nightmare that is projected.
