This announcement comes from COMPARE member Stu Chipman of Weymouth: NAVAL AIR STATION, SOUTH WEYMOUTH MA A PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF THE STATION AND EMPLOYEES 1930'S to Present Day February 24 - April 28, 2001 at Starbucks Coffee Co. Corner of Route 18 & Pleasant St. (at the Pleasant Shops), Weymouth A tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces and the civilian employees, who by coincidence passed my doorway each day they arrived or departed the station, or bought newspapers from me. I spent more time on board than off, both waking hours and sleeping, dreaming of the events of the day gone by and the new day ahead. I was fortunate to meet many of these people. Marine and Naval staff of the station, both active duty and reserve. Many have served and built our surrounding communities as they are today, with a rich heritage from across the country with many completing 20 years at the base. Many family members reside within our towns today. I am proud to be part of the nearly 60 years of Naval presence in Abington, Hingham, Quincy, Rockland, and Weymouth. I sincerely thank all the people who have helped build up my photo collection as it is today, especially Starbucks Coffee Company at Main Street and Pleasant Shops for allowing this display of history for our towns. If you are able to identify specific individuals in the photographs, please contact me, Stu Chipman, at 781-335-3449. If you are able to stop by Starbucks, tell them Stu Chipman sent you.
