EPA Opposes Mills' $330 Mln Meadowlands Mall in NJ, NYT Says New York, Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- The Environmental Protection Agency yesterday recommended a permit not be issued to Mills Corp. for the development of a $330 million proposed mega-mall next to the New Jersey Meadowlands sports complex outside New York City, the New York Times reported. The EPA recommends the Army Corp. of Engineers, which has jurisdiction over the project, reject all five proposals Arlington, Virginia-based Mills has submitted for the project because of concerns about damage to area wetlands, Mary Mears, a spokeswoman for the federal agency, told the paper. Mills wants to build a 2 million square-foot development that would include retail and office space, as well as a hotel. The company has said it expects to start construction next year.
