Downsizing what?

Downsizing what?
by Tom Goodwin, 5/2/100

We are now supposed to believe that the SSTDC, and Mills Corp. have downsized their project from the original 2+ mil. sq.ft. Mall to something less than the 1.6mil sq.ft. of S.S. Plaza. Research even of a cursory nature indicates that the Mills Corp. builds virtually all of it's malls in the 1.2 to 1.5 mil.sq.ft. range. Therefore we can assume that all we have seen happen here is the exercise of a common, and pitifully simplistic, developers ploy ,of building exactly what you wanted after you have "reduced" the size of your project. Who was that supposed to fool? The people of the town of Weymouth, unlike their former governing body, will not be taken in by this pathetic "smoke and mirrors" act. We don't want your mall!! Whether you build it in sections or not!We don't want your 60,00 cars! We don't want your road slashing it's way through our neighborhoods, or our very lives! In short ,the Mills mall project represents nothing less than the irrevocable destruction of the ways and quality of life we have sought for our families and children in this OUR hometowns of Weymouth,Abington,Rockland, and Hingham. 1
