Beta-Readers

What's a Beta Reader?

A beta reader is not someone who reads your story and sends feedback. A beta reader is a person who reads fan fic and then offers constructive criticism to the author to help make their story the best it can be. Some of the things they look for are spelling errors, plot problems, grammar, and characterization. They also help with ideas and making sure the story flows properly. Not every beta reader looks for everything. Most specialize in one or two things.

Some writer's have more than one. It depends on your personal preference. Often times when you find the one perfect beta reader whose personality meshes with yours you tend to hang on to them for dear life.

Beta readers are a true treasure. Treat them accordingly.

Beta-Reader List

Name: Caroline

E-Mail Address: [email protected]

Categories Interested In: Wide interest covering many categories.

Strong Points: I am an HR professional, and have worked in the City for many years. I have considerable experience reading and editing all types of documents, and have a solid command of the English language, together with excellent spelling and grammar. I am also enthusiastic, organised and have a good sense of humour!

Hours A Week Available: I am flexible on this level, and can probably give as little or as much as required at present.

Name: Gwen MacBeth

E-Mail Address: [email protected]

Categories Interested In: Any category other than Pre-10k appeals to me. I am devoted to the Evil Queen. What can I say?  Her multi-faceted character was brilliantly written and brilliantly performed. :-) However any other character interests me as well.

Strong Points: I have an honours degree in English, which, bottom line,  necessitated good grammar and correct spelling, about which I am sadly but usefully anal; I  have also worked as proof-reader  of a small academic journal and a small local newspaper. Most importantly, however, I am a t10k fanatic/ addict.

Hours A Week Available: I would be available to read for two hours most Saturdays and  once a week for one or two hours in the evening.

If anyone out there would like to be listed as a Guild Beta-Reader e-mail me and I'll put you name and preferences up. Include your strong points, category of fics you'll read, how many hours a week you're available to beta read, and anything else you'd like to include.
