Background in my computer hobby: [I treat all computers as family .]

First contact with a computer: January 1993                                    Type: Datamini branded 486DX2

History: Curious guy (that's me), played around with the DOS commands. Frequently warned by my daddy kasi alam mo that bago ang pc at first pc pa ren eh. Within 4 months during that year, kapisadong-kapisadong ko na yung mga commands in C:\DOS directory. Papa was impressed that I could fix the 486 by myself without external professional help.. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Death of the 486: Oct/Nov 1996. I cried silently, I cried in-side of me, I cried hopelessly.... :P eheh.... It died indirectly. [Warm lockups, i.e kapag nag load na ang windows or nasa DOS then suddenly mag hang] => new pc Pentium 100 from once now defunct PC shop in Jurong East, Singapore. By then I knew what was composed inside the casing of the computer.

June 1997: A new PC branded Datamini was purchased, a Pentium II 266MHz (and it's still functioning up to now)

Dec 1999: At last I have successfully persuaded my daddy for me to buy computer hardware and assemble it myself. [Now I can put to practice what I have learnt myself in the past... 5 years]. The approval was already done in October, yung problema lang ay the money comes out from me mummy. Ahaha, sabi daw nya ayosin mo muna ang End of the Year Exam... and I did.. coz I really wanna build it. And i achieved position of 9th overall in class [Top 10]. The toll gate was opened, and 1000 SGD was given to me, and I built a Celeron 466 System all by myself

Jan 2000-Dec 2000: Little did I know that I had a faulty motherboard, the i440lx based chipset model had a defective AGP [Where the Video Card sits] slot, frequent lock ups. Buay tahan liao na eh, so pinilit nanaman daddy ko to change the motherboard... mummy say galingin mo muna sa O levels. And I did.. I am a momma's boi kasi!!!!!!!!

Jan 2001: Green light was given, and sum of 700 SGD was given to me. Got the 2nd green light to buy a new CPU dahil I was convinced that AMD was better than Intel in terms of performance. Got a DFI-AK74EC AMD Based with CPU AMD Duron 700MHz, new hard disk IBM 30GB capacity and a new video card too, major overhaul of the PC. Up to know, walang problema na, though nag hahang occasionally dahil sa heat.

Mar 2001: Bought Acer TM525 laptop for studying purpose. Powered by Intel Pentium III 700MHz

Sept 2002: Assembled a new PC for use in dorm, Celeron 1.7GHz pics of the comp are in the photo gallery. Acer TM525 Laptop retired from service to me.

August 2003: Upgraded my old SG pc, from AMD to Intel uli.. hehe bilis na ang living room pc mag laru ng kahit anong pc game. Details at the About Me!! link in photogallery. Added Radeon 9600np graphics card for my celeron pc. The Datamini Pentium II has retired from service and in goes the left-over parts taken out of the old SG pc nagiging AMD Duron na.

July 2004: My celeron 1.7GHz has retired from service. Last 6 months, the pc always encounter corrupted d/loads which became intermittent as time goes by. Last month the ram died and slowly after I removed the damaged ram, it started to have BSODs, which led to the death of the 2nd ram module. Also both ram slots became faulty and the pc would hang after detection of drives.

July 2004: I bought new rig components, a Pentium 4 Prescott 520 w/ lga775 mobo & geforce pcx 5750 video card. Head on to photo gallery for pics of my new pc & its specifications. Amount Spent, 1.6k SGD

August 30 2004: Bought Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 HDD at Comex 2004 Singapore. Installed in my father's Pentium 4 rig.. Details found in My Rig link found at the photo gallery page.

October 30 2004: Added another stick of 512MB ram to my prescott rig, totalling to 1GB and running dual-channel

November 30 2004: Bought 2x Coolermaster 80mm case fans with LED

December 7 2004: Bought 1x 2 piece Coolermaster Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light that dances to sound/music

January 8 2005: Motherboard shorted scare was experience after doing major cleanup. Conclusion was dust had blocked electrical connections and this contributed to no OK beep during post (assumed to be mobo short by instinct). Super dust brush off by technician revived the motherboard.

May 14th 2005: It was unfortunate for the 915P-G motherboard to die due to personal error (broken IC chip whilst trying to unscrew a stuck spacer), a personal error which would invalidate the warranty of the motherboard as it doesn't cover personal damage. So went to Laser to buy a new motherboard which is the 915P Duo Pro. Same kind of motherboard with a lot of goodies such as RAID, Firewire and DDR-2 memory support.

September 4 2005: Went to COMEX 2005 and purchased a HP LaserJet 1020 printer for sole usage of printing documents. The maintenance of our exisitng Epson Stylus CX3100 multifunction printer is getting a tad too high with black ink changing rate of at least 3 times a month, and each black ink cartridge costs $41. The laser printer's toner costs $129 and if printed everyday, can churn out 2000 pages at normal mode and 5000 pages at economy mode. Imagine the Epson's ink just printing not even reaching 100 pages have to change the black ink cartridge. Save lots of money using a laser printer.
