The SV...
This is just a place for me to rant a little and give visitors some background information on myself. With summer here I doubt I'll update it too much, unless like today it's raining & I have the day off (pout..)

Custom LED tail lights
*REMOVED*
Taken June /01 just after I finished putting it all back together.  Pre-rebuild pictures here.
I've taken out the pictures of other SV's.  The best place on the web for this bike is
www.svrider.com
and they have hundreds of pics.  Here I'll just have Sarah's and my own.
My 1999 Suzuki SV650s. V-twin, sport bike looks with a cruiser feel.  What more could I ask for?

I got the bike dropped (
see pictures here) with some fairly serious damage, more than I expected. Both fairings I've repaired to the best of my ability with epoxy and spray paints. Not bad colour match huh? Anyway, I plan to replace the tank and front fairings this winter.; The bike is road-worthy now, with flush mount front blinkers and new grips. The mirrors are back on too. Amazing bike, killer around the streets. 0-100kph in less than 4 seconds. I figure the 1/4 in the 12's. I also plan to eliminate the rear fender and make a custom licence place mount, along with flush mount rear turn signals. The bike is not yet licenced.

Well, the bikes back on the road. Total damage was as expected, although I didn't realize the radiator was destroyed. $505 CDN, ouch! Cadillac radiators are less expensive. Alas, I wanted factory quality so there was no arguing. This is my first 'real' bike, previous bikes were '72 CB450 (Honda), '84 TT250 (Yamaha), '82 XS1100 (Yamaha), and various dirt-bikes. Now, I ride in the company of an 2k R6, '87 GSXR 750 racebike, a YFR400 and a little Honda NS 50 (poor Kyle!).

It's winter now here in Canada, so the toys have to go away. The bike though, came downstairs with me into the basement. Planned changes include:
-Racetech front spring kit
-GSXR rear shock
-BT010/020 combo tires or equivlent
-2 Wheel Junkie fairing replacement
-Barry Jones undertail, possibly a hugger
-High mount exhaust & rejet.
-Remote vacuum lines for easier carb sync'ing

I hope this will put me into the mid 80hp range & smooth out the ride. In fact, the bike is hanging in my workshop from the rafters. Tank & plastics are all off, along with the front tire and fork (disassembled for RaceTech install). Will post pictures soon.

NEW BIKE IN THE FAMILY.  Today Sarah, my girlfriend, for our 5 year aniversary was introduced to her new best friend.  Unannounced I wheeled a brand new 2002 Silver SVS into her garage.  Then I asked her to go get some milk from the beer fridge at dinner.  Hehehe... I'm so evil.   She walked in and didn't have a clue.  Needless to say, she was happy!   So, we have a bone stock 2k2 with 18 kms on the clock, and my '99 is being painted.

Due to a crash while linked to Geocities I lost my last log entry.   As per typical with a student budget, very little actually got done over the winter.  I changed the fork oil to 15w and added home made 17mm PVC spacers to preload the front springs.  This helped considerabily, and would recommend it to any SV rider.  Cost was less than $20!!   I re-finished the bodywork with fiberglass reinforcing & had it repainted a custom shade of red.  I also have mounted red neon lights, but I'm going to move them to where I've got Sarah's blue neons.  Rear tire is going fast, 11,000kms on it today.   Badly need an exhaust.  Should have worked one into the deal with Sarah's bike and then put it on mine!  I did get the remove vacuum lines installed, but they didn't need sync'ing yet.  I did however have the rear carb pop out of the intake boot.  Rather interesting...!

I moved to Hamilton, Ontario last weekend.  Had to take my bike off the road to pay for all the hook-up charges (and over $100 in parking tickets!!) so she's in my garage awaiting cleaning & possible carb mods.  I figure if I'm going to get a exhaust anyhow, I'll need to mod the carbs... right?

Still haven't put my bike back on the road.  I've been riding Sarah's '02 a lot - more than she'd like I suppose :-) - but she's a good about it.  Seems silly to pony-up for insurance this late in the year, but I changed jobs and have bills to pay off before the toys come out again.  I'm still keeping her extra-shiney & ride it every two weeks or so.

10/2002
Another quick update.  Did the carb shimming on both bikes - VERY noticeable difference.  Lift the front end easily now, sometimes in second gear if I'm leaned back and wack the throttle in a power shift.  Also finished my third custom project - LED tail light.  Not a bulb replacement, check out the
pictures!

03/2003
Lost my last update, again.  Personal update:  Got engaged, bought a house.  No garage, but space to build nice work shop.  SV update:  Small spill results in getting parts repainted.  Took opertunity to fill in stock turn signal holes in front fairing.  No exhaust or fork springs yet.  GSXR shock installed in December.  LED tail light removed, one diode burnt out and they were all epoxied in place, required replacing center tail section (eBay!!).  Will probably do again with replaceable element design.

She's licenced, legal and whole again.  After getting everything together and riding my SVS for a month, I've decided it was worth it.  She runs beautifully.  Flawless even.  No flatspots, no hesitations.  Fires right up, and within 60 seconds she's ready to go.  I have, however, decided to put her up for sale.  I absolutely love this bike, but it's time for a new project.  I'll still have Sarah's '02 SVS to play on, but at 23 years old insurance is just killer.  I'll keep sharp on the '02, and in 2 years buy my dream bike:  A Hayabusa.  Or its successor.  At 25 the insurance goes way down, so the money I save on the SV and the fact that's I'm older should let me buy a land missle.

09/2003
I'm sorry to report the SVS has been sold.  It was my baby for a long time, but now it's time for something else.  The insurance was hard, and I'm getting married.

07/2004
The 2002 SVS (Sarah's) has also been sold.  Getting out of biking for a while,  save the insurance money and pay off old debt.

12/2004
I've been bike less for almost half a year now.  It's not at bad as I thought it would be, and the bank balance is reflecting the savings.  Or at least, the debt ratio is.    I need to finish my M2 licence next year, so I'll have to buy something, or borrow a bike for a weekend
