"Duct tape makes the world go around." - submersible teammate.

From a mechanical engineering perspective, practically every problem can be fixed by duct tape.  We discovered that while building the submersible a few years ago.  At some point our sub was essentially assembled using duct tape.  It even solves our leakage problem, at least temporary.  I bet Titanic wouldn't have sunk if it had enough duct tape aboard, meaning Leo wouldn't have to die (all Leo fans cheer for duct tape!).  In the movie Hollow Man, they even used duct tape to close a wound in the belly!  Any opinions from the med students?  Besides that, we also make heavy use of WD-40 which is a type of grease.  If something doesn't fit, apply WD-40 and then use brute force!  See, it's a very good lubricant.  Mmmmmm ... lubs.  Obviously it's good for other stuffs besides engineering.  Prevents wear by corrosion too!

"A good match involves both skill and luck." - someone from college, don't remember who.

I never thought much about this until quite recently.  It actually makes a lot of sense now, to me at least.  When I compete with someone in anything, I wouldn't want the match to be strictly a function of our skill levels.  Luck will give it some unexpected surprises every now and then.  But then too much luck, and I would be better off in a casino game.  Of course if I win, it's always because of my skill.  And if I lose, it's always because of my bad luck.  Haha!

Journalist/reporter:
Surely you (George Bush) recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?
George Bush:  No, I don't think that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots.  This is one nation under God.

Oh man, this is SO good!  George Bush (current president's dad) said this around 1987 before he's become president, though I don't think he changed his mind about that after he's president.  He probably think atheists are immorals and communists.  While I do see why some would think atheists are immoral (no higher being to keep you on a leash, assuming you require a leash to behave), but why communists?  Oh cuz most communists are atheists, thus inverse holds?  Logic 101 please!  Besides simply as a political theory, communism is cool despite the flaws.  Considering such a person was once voted American president, the possibility of an American inquisition vs atheists suddenly doesn't seem so remote.  If it is to take place, here's some people who would be burned at stake: Bill Gates, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Crichton, Jodie Foster, Angelina Jolie, Billy Joel, and of course me!  Well let's hope this part of the president's dad didn't rub off on to his son.

"Easy come, easier go." - ummm ... modified word of wisdom?

For the rest of you it's just, "Easy come, easy go."  The quote above better suits me though.  I'm more thinking of gambling, not that I'm anything close to a gambling addict.  But still let's just say I've had some significant contributions to the Atlantic City gambling industry.  Speaking of gambling, I've never been to Las Vegas.  Over there my money is probably better wasted on prostitutes than on casinos.  Though given the puny amount I can afford, anything on the order of a bath with a prostitute will deplete my treasury.
