Everyone was gathered in the reception hall after the wedding ceremony. They had finished eating and all were awaiting the toasts to the bridge and groom. The idle chatter died down due to the sound of a fork hitting a champagne glass.
Charles and Isabelle Corday stood up to give a toast to their daughter and new son-in-law. "Elizabeth," said Charles, "No matter how much you grow up, you will always be our little girl. We have always been there to support you, and we always will, but you don't need us as much anymore, you have Mark. Over the past year the two of you have been through so much and no matter what was thrown into you paths you were there to support each other."
"You have gotten past the hardships together," continued Isabelle, "And I know that the rest of you lives with each other will be nothing but happiness. Congratulations to both of you." They sat down and everyone applauded. Elizabeth was near tears after her parents speech, but were suddenly shocked by the next person who stood up to give a toast.
"Lizzie," started Romano, "I know we've had our differences over the years and I might not have been the most agreeable person, but I know how much today means to you. You deserve all the happiness that you have gained and that is still to come. You do not need me to wish you good luck, for you have more luck than you will ever need. Congratulations." The entire room was shocked as to how Romano could have given such a heartfelt toast, especially Elizabeth and Mark.
They were all snapped back into reality when Carter stood up. "Before I give my toast," he said. "I recieved a tape from two people who couldn't be here today. They asked me to play the tape for you, as their toast." Carter gave the tap to the DJ who plugged it into the speaker system.
"Mark, buddy, you have been my best friend for years," said Doug via the tape. "I've seen you at your worst, and I know that with Elizabeth, you are at you best. You two deserve all the good that you are given. Congratulations."
It was then Carol's turn to give her toast to the newly-weds. "Elizabeth, Mark, you two have been like family to me. No two people seem more perfect for each other than you two do. Congratulations, you deserve this."
By this time, Elizabeth had stopped trying to control the tears as they continued to build in her eyes, and started to fall down her checks. The DJ stopped the tape, and Carter stood to make his speech. "Mark, you have been a huge part of not only my career, but my personal life as well. You and Elizabeth have been such a huge influence, that there is nothing I can wish you but happiness and prosperity. Congratulations."
A few of the nurses made quick toasts, and this portion of the reception ended with Rachel's toast. "I never thought that I would be present at my father's wedding, it's just not something a girl thinks about. As much as I had dreaded a day like this, in the past, I have no such feelings today. You two deserve to be together, you make each other happy. I love you both."
Rachel's toast even brought some tears to Mark's eyes as she sat down. The DJ set up for the ceremonial dances. Charles Corday stood up and offer his hand to Elizabeth, which she took. They walked to the middle of the dance floor and the music started to play. They chose "More I Cannot Wish You" from Guys and Dolls as their song.
After the music ended, Mark walked onto the dance floor for the First Dance. He took Elizabeth's hand and whispered in her ear the same words that were being said over the speaker system "When I first saw you, I saw love. And the first time you touched me, I felt love. After all this times, you're still the one I love." They slowly danced, somewhat oblivious to all that was around them, focused only on each other.
Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We might of took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
BUt just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
the one that I belong to.
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
the only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight.
Ain't nothing better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
the one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
the only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight
You're still the one
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
the one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
the only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight
I'm so glad me made it
Look how far we've come my baby.
