Disclaimer:I own nothing, although I want to.

Mark and Elizabeth stumbled out of the now dark arcade. They crossed the boardwalk and stood at the edge of the pier. "Well, at least I can say I tried," said Mark leaning back against the railing.

"Thank you Mark," she replied, giving him a reassuring smile. She leaned foward on teh railing next to Mark staring out at the moonlit water.

Mark could tell that the days events were still bothering her. "Elizabeth?" he asked turning around to face the water. Getting no response he moved closer to her so that their arms were touching. "Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth continued to stare out over the water. She didn't break her stare until she felt Mark brush a few curls back form her face. She turned her head to face him, "Sorry... Maybe it would be best If I just went home. I haven't been the best of company tonight." She turned to leave, but Mark softly grabbed her arm to stop her. "Mark, please," she said still trying to go.

mark's grip held and he stepped closer to her. "Elizabeth, you don't have to go."

"I really should," she said, somewhat expecting more of an arguement over it.

"At least let me drive you home," he said slightly disappointed. He lead her to his car and openned the door. Once she closed it, he went around to the driver's side and got in.

The car ride was silient. Elizabeth just stared out the window, obviously deep in thought. Mark kept sneaking glances over at her, trying to make sure she was okay, secretly wishing there was something he could do to help. Elizabeth was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't notice when teh car stopped outside her apartment.

"Elizabeth?" asked Mark, pulling her back to reality. "You going to be allright, or do you want me to walk you in?" he asked trying not to push himself on her.

"Could you?' she replied, surprised by her own answer. They got out of the car. Mark placed his hand on the small of her back and lead her across teh lobby and into the elevator. They rode the few floow in silence and then crossed the hallway to her apartment. Elizabeth dug her keys our of her purse and opeened the door. She reached inside and flipped the lightswitch, but the lights refused to go on.

"The power must still be out," explained Mark. "are you going to be okay by yourself? I could stay for awhile if you need me too."

"Thank you Mark," she replied as they stepped into the apartment.
