the chilling conclusion (finally)
There's a long, touching speech about Peyton Place gossip and the crummy sense of community. I turned on my AC but it didn't drown out the television.

Allison and Norman are the last ones in the courtroom. Outside, the crowd cheers for Selena. Mr. Rossi and Lana walk home. Allison runs after Lana. They embrace. I'm ready for dinner. At last, a final voice-over. About love, or some rot.
Close on some boys riding their bikes.
Grrl Genius tells us how nice it is that it ends happily ever after, but immediately ruins it by telling us about Return to Peyton Place. I think I'll skip it.
