In the interest of broadening my horizons, I asked my friends on an online chat forum to list the best horror movies. I found that it is impossible to find a list of horror movies without several appearances by movies like Army of Darkness - movies that are, essentially, spoofs. Horror-Comedies that are lovable, funny, and not remotely scary. Or, in the cases of the Scream movies, scary but not actual horror in the sense in which I think of it. But more on Scream elsewhere, at another time.
I had a lot of difficulty determining where Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn fits in. It is so over-the-top campy that it was difficult to classify it as straight horror, but at the same time my personal experience was that it was truly creepy in parts. While the first movie had me hiding my eyes at points, and the second had me laughing so hard that I had to pause the movie for ten minutes (the hand scene, of course), they are both so incredibly brilliant that I will forever hold a candle for Sam Raimi and will always be a fan of the Horror genre, even if I leave the room every time Oslowe watches a new movie to review.
