Mediocrity...

Mediocrity is doing just a little less then what you have to and there are jobs that allow it on an everyday basis. Stand in a line at the post office when you are in a hurry. The line could move quickly if the people in the back would try, or you could stand there and tap your feet for hours if they spend their time talking and gossiping in the back. Who cares who's cheating on who anyway?

My latest experience with the great world of mediocrity in the American workplace had me take two trips to the UPS center out in Hyattsville, Maryland, without getting my package only to find it on my desk at work six days after it was mailed. After I paid for two day shipping. The shipper, mediocre, UPS, mediocre, the whole damn world, mediocre.

It got by, just a little mistake, only a little problem, nobody will notice, don't worry about it.... and the list goes on and on. Think about how a soldier in the field would feel about that if he were to find that in the weapon he was using, "only a little problem, every third bullet will fire", "every third tank won't explode".

And eventually I got my package. Maybe some day the people who did that mediocre work will get a mediocre doctor or a mediocre pilot... maybe, just maybe...
