THE BLURB OF EXPLANATION:

I've read a lot of fanfic in my day & I come across a lot of similar themes across the fandoms. Some of them are trite, some are twisted. But this one amuses me: the presence of this sentence (or one of it's variants).

Whoa. Where did that thought come from?

I think it represents the notion that when we like someone, it sneaks up on us. There we are, talking with someone we know and don't realize we "feel that way" about them until some random thought like "I feel so at home when he smiles" or "how does she expect me to think straight when she wears that?" pops into our heads.

So, I get the idea. But really, doesn't it make you think of Keanu when anyone says "whoa"?

The bulk of these are from Echo's stories, cause I read all her stuff.
She knows I love her, so I'm pretty sure I can get away with posting these quotes...

Spike wasn't supposed to be playing the gentleman to Fred's lady. He was supposed to be rude like he always was. Fred wasn't supposed to like Spike. Fred was HIS.

Whoa. Where had that thought come from?

- Had a Bad Day

Fred seemed to like Spike a lot. Cordelia scowled. She was always giggling at what he said. Always talking to him. Always making sure he ate. Always making sure he was included. Well, Fred could just back off. Spike was hers.

Ok, whoa.

- Cordelia's Ashes

If Fred had made the sounds and the faces she was making with Spike with him at the simple touch of her leg, he'd have taken her on the sofa. Repeatedly.

Ok Whoa.

Sexual thoughts about sweet little Fred were not good.

- Pretty Thin

These are from various sources...

His eyes are really blue. They're pretty, actually. I mean, as far as eyes go. Whoa, where did that thought come from? Earth to Rory. Tristan is the mortal enemy, annoying person, thorn in your side, and so on, blah de blah blah. Get a grip. Remember Dean? He had brown eyes. Brown eyes are pretty.

- Could We Ever Be More? by Blue Angel Wings

He knew from speaking with her that she was fine, but there was something in him that just needed to see her, that wanted to make sure she was resting, that she was eating, to see if her smile was real or forced, to see what she was wearing Wait, where did that thought come from? Angel shook his head in an effort to clear it. He just wanted to make sure she was taking care of herself.

- A Day Off by Ophelia

"Why do you insist on calling me that?" she snapped, whirling on him. "It's not my name!"

Whoa. Again not what he had been expecting. And why hadn't he noticed before how pretty she was when she was angry? He knitted his brow. Where had that thought come from? He had promised himself . . . Shaking his head and ignoring his temporary moment of insanity, he forged ahead. "You want to tell me what's wrong?"

- Revelations by Mikki

Note: Jaimie found this one, so I don't know where it hails from, but I just loved the new permutation.

As the realtor walked towards the door, grey eyes scrutinized the small figure that watched, fascinated, the waves lapping gently at her feet. The woman never moved and the sea didnt appear to want to encroach her space either, almost as if they had an affinity to each other. Poseidons Daughter, now where had that spark in her imagination come from?
