Welcome to Pirko's page

This is the "in memoriam" story about our Pirko Ca CH Imperial Red of
Unknown Fantasies
Pirko was born on Sept 24 2002 and came to live with us in Nov of 2002 by
"accident". On a Bull Terrier club match one of the attending breeders was asking us if we
would be interested in a red female Bullie. They knew the breeders of that litter and thought we were good candidates.
Now, we as very new breeders, we had our first litter in July of that same year
and kept Naphta out of that so wore not thinking of taking on an other puppy.
On the way home that day we talked about that red Bullie.desited that we were
flattered but it was not the time. About a hour later and still not home we thought: well maybe we shouldn't dismiss
this opportunity after all, I always wanted a red Bull Terrier.... Yes, by the time we got home we agreed to give the breeder a call, get the necessary
info and take it from there.

The phone conversation was very positive, the people very nice and first time
breeders too! Pirko was already assigned to her new owner but on the way to her new home the
owner got a very bad allergy attack and had to go to the Emergency and was kept
overnight. The following day she had to bring Pirko back to the breeder and was strongly advised to find good homes for her 2 cats and
Guinea Pig as well. Pirko was back op her nest and living happily with her sister Pepper and driving
there mommy crazy.
We found more than 1 thing in common, the love for the breed off course, there first
litter with there first Bullie girl and only 2 months later than our litter with
Torfi! Now we all know that if you put Bullie people together on the phone, in person or
otherwise (dat is het hek van de dam) We set up an appointment for the following weekend with the understanding that
if we loved the puppy and they thought we were "good enough" we would
take her home with us. It was just a 3 hour drive but when you lived in Europe your whole live that is
a pretty far distance. (I know, I know) That week was exiting and anxious at the same time for me, there was a red Bullie
girl that I really wanted to have but...what if we wouldn't pass the breeders exam
or we didn't like the puppy.
All those thoughts and believe me emotions too. On Thursday the breeder of Pirko called and told us that the previous owner
really really wanted to give having a Bullie a try and requested a second
chance. Now that we already had a "claim" on her the breeder asked us if that
was ok with us, since we never saw and therefore not yet had bounded with her to
give her up.
Reluctantly I did. We already had picked out a name for her, Pirko was what she would be called and
we had been working on a pedigree name that would connect our 2 kennels
together. How much I was looking forward to meeting this little red girl I knew that if it
had been me I would want an other chance. And there did my "dream" Bull Terrier go, the chance of finding a good
deep red female Bullie girl with nice bloodlines , very sound even on that age
and on just 3 hour drive was slim to nothing, sigh...
Friday that week the phone rang, Pirko's breeder, saying that and now I don't really recall the conversation but I thought that the owner never even could
make it thru the door or she got an other allergic reaction, if we were still interested
in Pirko, WERE WE EVER!! After that we stayed away from the phone, did not open any mail and waited till
Saturday to come.

We left the house at day break and drove straight to our destination and arrived
at least a half hour to early. On the off ramp Harry called them announcing that we had good and bad news.
Good news was we are coming to visit Pirko, the bad news is....we are HERE!
As soon as we arrived we noticed that he wasn't really expecting us. "Mom" Brigitte went to work that Saturday morning and "dad"
Martyn was having a nice breakfast with his 4 year old son Bart. After we called he didn't had time to clean up the breakfast table but Bullies
were already taking care of that, the son was covered with chocolate sprinkles and
"things" everywhere. It looked like a Saturday morning at a family with a young son, a adult Bull
Terrier and 2 running, racing and hucklebutting pups. We felt at home right away....and we have been very good friends ever since!

So there we were finally, trying to sit down while juggling a cup of coffee, give
the Bullie mom attention, answering the young fellow all sorts of questions, having
a conversation with Martyn,"checking out "our"
Pirko but fist and foremost keeping the 2 puppies on arm length (yeah if ever).
Oh and trying to make a very good impression so the breeder would grand us this
beautiful Pirko puppy. After a coffee or 2,more coffee stains, way more puppy bites and scratches we told
Martyn that we would love to take her home with us if he thought that we could
give her a good home. Martyn a man of never to many words agreed and we signed the contract, paid for
OUR Pirko and celebrated with yet an other coffee (stain).
