The Game

I set out to win you
and for a time I did.
You were with him and
felt neglected.
I gave you the attention
needed.
Affection.
It was something different.
Wanted.
But at some point you
pulled away.
The game was over and
the thrill wore off.
The love faded from your
voice.
No feeling.
As if I was speaking to a
complete stranger.
You became a stranger to me.
Though I tried to deny it,
say you still loved me.
It was only to fool myself.
And now you're back with him,
in the game.
Always after what you can't
tame.
You tamed me,
and the game was over.
