Neighbourhood Action and Preservation Association: PULL THE FANGS OF THE WATER VAMPIRES!! Espaol

acting to preserve San Bernardino's oldest historical neighbourhood

formerly Feldheym Neighbourhood Association, Preservation Committee

Welcome to the Home Page of the Neighbourhood Action and Preservation Association
Unlike most Neighbourhood Associations, the Feldheym Neighbourhood Association Preservation Committee had to declare its political independence, becoming a Political Action Committee because it must defend San Bernardino's oldest neighbourhood from destruction by the city! Why? "Vision 20-20", sold to the Metropolitan Water District by the "Urban Spaces Group," a water-project advocacy group from Texas (where they have already wreaked havoc on San Antonio!), is now trying to sell its project to the City of San Bernardino. This will not benefit the residents of San Bernardino, and will result in dislocation, homelessness, and the turning of the Bunker Hill Aquifer--San Bernardino's most precious resource--into another Owens Lake, Mono Lake, or Aral Sea! Why? to benefit shortsighted business interests along Hospitality Lane, and, beyond them, greedy developers, both here and in the counties thirsty for our water! We must resist this repeat of the Spaniard and Mormon rape and pillage of this land which has already soaked our precious soil in mud and blood! The Soviet people fell victims the folly of their government in draining the Aral Sea, which has turned into a salt-pan, poisoning the cotton-fields it was supposed to irrigate. The Egyptian people have had some of their most precious historical heritage drowned by the megalomaniac Lake Nasser, behind the Aswan High Dam, and now the Nile Delta is shrinking. This tragedy is being repeated in the Three Gorges project in China. We, too, have been foolish, in drowning the Grand Canyon of the Hetch Hetchy and draining Owens Lake and Mono Lake. We say Enough Already! We stand against such folly here in San Bernardino, which has seen most of its historic downtown already destroyed. We resist, and will not rest until we can call San Bernardino ours again!

Update: The consultants change, the plan changes, but the goal remains the same!

With the completion of the Urban Spaces contract, "Vision 20-20" has been replaced with a north-south water project, being proposed by another firm of consultants, Ehrenkrantz, Eckhut & Kuhn Architects (EEK). All that remains of the original seven phases in their proposal is the demolition of the western corner of Phase 1A, between the 215 freeway, E St., Baseline, and 9th St., and its integration into a stream running south along E St. to Mill St.

Not only is the ethos of urban destruction reiterated, albeit on a smaller scale: the proposal totally ignores the role of E St. as an axis for traffic, commerce, and utilities. Clearly, just as with the Urban Spaces proposal, EEK is playing a shell game on behalf of interests intent on grabbing our homes and water. They have exposed themselves by agreeing to hold a forum intended for the targeted area outside that area...and by asking not to do the environmental impact report, required before any project can go forward. How long will the contracting governments of the "Water Resources Authority" JPA go on recklessly spending taxpayers' money on nebulous "consultants" who can only try to hide the actual agenda of that JPA?

Update: The plot thickens...

As the "San Bernardino Valley Water Resources Authority" JPA concludes its business with EEK, and moves on to select a consultant to write the Environmental Impact Report, we at the Neighbourhood Action and Preservation Association continue to research and analyse documents pertinent documents: we will be giving a complete response to the EIR.

URGENT UPDATE! WE BATTLE TO AVERT A HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER!

We are nearing a showdown with the "nightmare 20-20" JPA!

As we predicted, a new consultant has been hired to produce the Environmental Impact Report...and once again, the JPA is up to its old tricks.

They are obliged to produce a preliminary document for public discussion...and they have singularly failed so far to do this.

They continue to try to terrorize us by screaming about liquifaction...ignoring facts we presented to them about the real probability of subsidence if dewatering is used in an attempt to mitigate liquifaction.

They have tried to scare outsiders by portraying our neighbourhood as a blighted, crime-ridden slum, ignoring thousands of families and their historic homes.

They will not scare us.

They will not fool us.

They will not move us: they shall not pass!

We will continue to update you on the struggle as it evolves: your support is urgently needed and greatly appreciated.

Update: The Struggle Continues!

Our resistance has been renewed: Please see the site by Paul and Deanna Adams, who are now in the vanguard of the resistance!
