biography

The members of 'No allegiance' left to right Dave, Steve, Matt CB, and Matt T.

No Allegiance aims to push the boundries of conventional taste and style to produce new and innovative music. We are heavily influenced by punk and alternative rock but we do not necessarily fit into any particular genre. Our vocals are sung in tune but our guitars have the distortion turned up to the max to create a heavy wall of sound, we also make use of effects such as reverb, chorus and clean guitar in our songs. The lyrics of our songs address serious issues about authority, individualism and society, often in a satirical and somewhat irreverant way.

The name 'No Allegiance' was chosen to reflect our attitude as a punk influenced band towards much of the group mentality we see today. 'No Allegiance' is exactly that, we hold no particular musical, political, religious or dietary preferences instead we promote the primacy of the individual to think and make choices for themselves and to not fall into so many of the traps that modern society lays for us. Despite having a serious side our music is fun, loud and jumpy, our performances always attract a loyal following of good friends who enjoy our music and support us.

The bands origins date back to late 1997 when the two guitarists Matt CB and Steve started mucking around jamming together. Dave the drummer was recruited a couple of months later and provided a great place out in the countryside to practise. When our first bass player Jason, threw a birthday party we were forced to get off our arses and actually play in front of people for the first time. In true punk rock style we were to drunk to play properly, but the buzz of live performance was big enough for us to catch the bug and crave more. After the departure of Jason to the green pastures of Gisborne we recruited Matt T on bass. No Allegiance has entertained all sorts of audiences from the revelers at drunken raucous parties, to the sober punks at a Non-toxic hardcore show. We are also veterans of battle of the bands 2000 and 2001 where we have competed against Hamiltons finest original acts.
