Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is used in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is translanted to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and could also be translated as "compassionate action." When individuals experience enlightenment, they report that all beings are known as one. Therefore, it is natural to extend compassionate action or Karuna to everyone without distinction because we are all one. As we help others and aid them in their healing process, all beings benefit. Because of the oneness of all beings, it is understood that Karuna is not only extended to others out of love, but also because it is an entirely logical thing to do. In the same way that you would want to heal your own wounds, you would also want the wounds of others to heal. It is also stated in the Buddhist literature that Karuna must be accompanied by parjna or wisdom in order to have the right effect.

    Karuna is the motivating quality of all enlightened beings who are working to end suffering on Earth. They continually send an unlimited amount of healing energy and guidance to us, but not all are receptive to it. As you develop Karuna in yourself, not only are you helping others, but you also become more receptive to the Karuna that is being sent by all enlightened beings. Thus your healing is quickened as well.

    Karuna Reiki® opens you to work more closely with all enlightened beings. This includes those enlightened ones who are physically present as well as those in spirit.

The five ReiKi symbols are the five levels of the mind. Together they are the non duality of mind and emptiness from ego that achieves Path of Enlightenment (Buddhist nirvana).  Once achieved, the Spirit is released from the cycle of incarnation. The symbols' original use was not for physical healing but Enlightenment (rising above the human condition) in order to help others help themselves.  Today there are more and more symbols being given to us.  The energy is of a higher vibration now and we are meant to evolve to the compassion level of the heart chakra.  The Christ consciouness/the Higher-Self; the fourth demension or even the fifth if our intent it there.  Selah.

The Buddist Thought

    Reiki is an ancient art of "laying on of hands" healing system derived from Tibetan Buddhism.  The spirit was addressed and physical healing was one of the assets due to the positive enhancement of the mind. Buddhism realized that attachment to worldly things and even to people, with the greed and negativity that such attachments inevitable cause, are the source of human suffering.  Actions based upon these attachments produce karma, both positive and negative, that hold the person's spirit to the earth plane. Karma (cause and effect) causes people to be reborn again and again, for the purpose of resolving the situations. Past life trauma is carried into the next life. Rebirth and living on the Earth are the source of human suffering, and yet karma cannot be cleared except by reincarnation in a human body.

    The answer to this paradox is the essence of Buddhist teachings. Buddhist teaching is based upon the principle of compassion for all living things, nonaggression towards people and animals and no killing of people or animals, and loving non attachment while helping others. To the Buddhist, healing means much more than healing the body, as the mind and emotions must also be healed, and healing must first of all be spiritual.  Jesus reminded us of all of this.  Plus!  He taught us who we really are and to empower ourselves with the gifts of Spirit.  To speak the word and believe that it will be, to walk in peace and love, and to let Spirit work in us and for us.

    Christian teachings are taken from Buddhism (Parable of the Mustard Seed, Prodigal Son, Sermon on the Mount and Temptations in the Desert by evil). The Buddha's discovery of the Path to Enlightenment made possible the Enlightenment of others. The birth of Christ was awaited by members of a Buddhist order, and the "Three Wise Men" followed the unusual astrological conjunction of 5 BCE to find him.  Buddhism had spread throughout the East by that time, and there were Buddhist centers in most Middle Eastern countries.  The child would have been two at that time and in danger from Herod who had received prophecies of an Essene leader newborn who would challenge Rome rule.  An Essene Buddhist type monastery existed at Qumran near the caves that later housed the Dead Sea Scrolls.  As a mystical order and possibly even a buddhist order, the Essenes were aware of these prophecies. Jesus who came in power and love to teach us that it is time for us to do the same for we are spirit as he is.

    There are many rays available now, Tera-Mai offers other elemental rays making up the five earth energies.  To walk in all five is surely a blessing.  Something I know I will work toward though His guidance.  These are the rays that make up the star of David in Kabbalah.

Earth (Reiki) healing energy is experienced as hot and cold (just like the
surface of the planet). Grounds all other healing energy.

Water (Sophi-El) waves of cool energy. Brings up deep emotional issues for
healing.

Fire (Sakara) is clearly distinguished as pulses of low voltage electricity;
healer experiences the sensation of pins & needles-like energy in the palms of
the hands and in the fingertips. Healees often feel effervescent energy or
low-voltage electricity on or in their body as the angels and spirit helpers repair
the body. Effervescence is the trademark of this healing energy; without these
sensations, it is not Seichem; it is not Sakara. Sakara works to repair the aura
as well as the physical body. Because we are a system, positive changes in one
aspect have healing ramifications throughout our being.

Description of Symbols

STAR OF DAVID--is a double tetrahedron.  The five elements: earth, fire, water, air, and spirit.

RAKU--Completion, achievement of lower nirvana, emptiness of self of existence. The appearance of an image of the Buddha (or Goddess) within the self.  Freedom, enlightenment, total peace.  Release from the illusion of the material world, release from the body and incarnation, total healing. In buddhism, this symbol is used in the direction from feet to crown to take one out of body; in Reiki it is used from crown to feet for grounding and to draw the energy from the universe into the body (opposit intent and meaning-Reiki is worldly use for the symbols, Enlightenment is the spiritual and Buddhist use. Buddhist thought makes the body and healing irrelevant). (ReiKi definition, the lightening bolt, completion, grounding).

SHANTI--Creates trust in life, healing the past, create harmony in the present and release the future.  "Letting go."  Calms fears and brings peace, enabling one to focus on the present and not worry about tomorrow.  Meditation with Shanti with the point going into the thrid eye increases clairvoyance.

HORIZONTAL CONNECTION (Iava)--"Claim your power!"  Helps you to break free from some elses control.  Helps you to break free from others expectations and projections and take back your power so you can create your life the way you want it to be.  Heals unconscious agreements that are not healthy causing each other to remain unhealthy.  Helps us to respect one another's independent realities; who we really are inside, realizing our own "self-esteem." An Earth healing energy...give to Mother.

OM--a Sanskrit symbol representing the sound that created the Universe. White Light.  It is used in many eastern spiritual practices.  It symbolizes the oneness that we are and connects us to it.  Purifies, protects, seals and stablizes the Aura. Opens a pathway to God and the higher consciousness.

HARTH--heals the heart and all issues relating to it.  Use it to fill in after negative energy has been released; very important.  Harth is love energy for relationships to heal and thrive.  Helps one to develop good habits, heals addictions (usually a problem with their heart and self-esteem, not loving themselves).  Harth develops compassionate actions.  It can also be used to receive blessings from spiritual beings; send them harth, they want love, too.  Harth frequently creates love in your heart for yourself, other people or for anything in life worth doing, having, or being.  Use it often.

ZONAR--is a spiritual anesthetic.  Also stops physical pain.  Zonar heals on a cellular level...memory of trauma brought with us from past lives or buried in childhood.  Calling upon Archangel Gabriel will help with karmic healing.  It prepares us to heal more deeply.

ANKH--The Ankh is Egyptian for eternal.  This symbol heightens other energy rays when used in combination.  Use it with Sea Breeze to soften the Ankh Ray if you find it too high a frequency. It is a golden ray of light.

SEA BREEZE--The energy from this symbol seems to be soft, calming and able to release tension.This symbol is used to attract the highest potential to an individual in this lifetime:  brings about opportunities without fear.

GODDESS SPIRAL--The spiral and pathway shape of this symbol is the design of the Labyrinth, an initiation space at the ancient Goddess temple of the Palace of Knossos on Crete.  In the archeology of this planet, spirals always represent Goddess energy.  The chakras are spirals, DNA is a spiral, galaxies are spirals, etc.  Goddess=creation, birth, nourishment.

CHO KU REI--focuses on the physical body in healing. increases the power to the energy system or the symbol one is using. Focuses energy in a singular area. Goddess energy.

DAI KO MYO--focuses on all the spirit levels and the healing of the soul.  "The one with the Mahayana heart of giving" or "Temple of the great beaming light." The person who has the desire for Enlightenment for others' sake and will achieve it. She realizes that great unification is the basis for understanding all things. (Oneness, You are Goddess.) When she becomes enlightened, she is freed from incarnation and suffering. In Buddhism, this is the only real healing. (ReiKi definition, healing the soul.)

SEI HE KI-- focuses on the emotional boby or subconscious healing.  Earth (and the person in incarnation) are considered impure ground. Impure ground (yellow) is purified by wisdom to gold--purification, transmutation, alchemical change from dross to gold. this is Enlightenment which few achieve (Buddha status), by realization of the emptiness of the self. Purification by the fire of wisdom to gold/purity.  (ReiKi definition, emotional healing, purification, cleansing protection. This symbol brings divinity into human energy patterns and aligns the upper chakras.  God and man coming together, "as above so below". All physical dis-ease has an emotional coordinate.)

IAVA--Claim your power; heals co-dependence; heals reality awareness; emposers your goals; heals the Earth.  Lends strength for self-discipline.

TIBETAN FIRE SERPANT--Used to join the chakras for meditation and healing.  It aligns all the chakras and the energy bodies simultaneously.  Kundalini.  A healing power given to us by our Creator residing in the sacral area waiting to be awakened.

VIOLET BREATH--is the "Holy Spirit" to some and the violet light to others.  It resembles in part the modern daikomio spiral or goddess spiral with the kundalini serpant.
The Creators breath of life.  Use it with good intentions and Spirit will move.

HON SHA ZE SHO NEN--focuses on the mental body or conscious mind in healing.  No past, no present, no future.  Freedom from delusion and karma (karma defined as the action of the mind).  The mind creates time, space, limitation and delusion. Enlightenment is going beyond the mind to the Buddha Nature (Goddess within) in all of us.  When the mind is aware, there is openness and release: freedom from time, space, delusion, limitation. Dissolution of limitation means understanding all things. (ReiKi definition, healing past/present/future, healing karma, distance healing, and sending to ArchAngels for help).  It is also an entrance into the Akashic Records, the life records of each soul, and therefore its most important use is in healing karma.

LEN SO MY--Pure Love.  Look at the symbols and you will see that the horizonal enfinity symbol (earth level) is raised up into the upper loop of a verticle enfinity symbol.  This means that man's mind is raised to a spiritual level-third eye of higher self consciousness where we have contact with the universal consciousness.  Unity, Love, Compassion that is without human illusions.

YUD--the Infinite Point.  The letter yud, a small suspended point, reveals the spark of essential good hidden within the letter tet. Subsequent to the initial tzimtzum, the  contraction of G-d's Infinite light in order to make "place" for Creation, there remained within the empty void a single, potential point or "impression."

MEM--the letter of "water" (mayim) symbolizes the fountain of the Divine Wisdom of Torah.  Just as the waters of a physical fountain (spring) ascend from their unknown subterranean source (the secret of the abyss in the account of Creation) to reveal themselves on earth, so does the fountain of wisdom express the power of flow from the superconscious source. In the terminology of Kabbalah, this flow is from keter ("crown") to chochmah ("wisdom").  The stream is symbolized in Proverbs as "the flowing stream, the source of wisdom."

ALEF--Form: A yud above and a yud below with a vav separating and uniting them simultaneously. The secret of the image in which man was created.  The union of "higher reality," the upper yud, with the "lower reality," the lower yud, by means of the connecting vav of Torah, is the ultimate secret of the letter alef.

SHIN--Form: Three vavs, each with a yud on top, rise from a common base- point.
Symbol of symmetry; Form of a flame.  The letter shin appears engraved on both sides of the head- tefilin. On the other side, the shin possesses three heads, while on the left side it possesses four heads. In Kabbalah we are taught that the three-headed shin is the shin of this world while the four-headed shin is the shin of the World to Come.

JOH RE--White Light.
LON SAY--a ReiKi healing symbol for the entire body. Combine with Cho Ku Rei. The union of the two symbols brings the mental, emotional, and physical body into alignment. Charges the aura bodies in their present state.  Use Rama to lift out negativity and then repair the holes in the aura  with Joh Re -white light.

WATER--The Symbolism of Flowing Water:
Water is a mutable element. As it flows it adapts itself to whatever shape it moves through. Because of its motion, though, it is not limited by the forms through which it moves. As humans, we often find ourselves resistant to movement, to leaving the limitations of the past and to moving towards the freedom of new ways of being. To watch, hear, and open all of our outer and inner senses to the flow of water reminds us that flow and change are the natural way of life.  We can also be reminded of water's strength: that without exerting excessive force it gradually wears down all which is in  its path. So, when we allow our own innate energies to flow we dissolve mental and emotional blockages. water flowing through us to release tension and stress.

MARA (Rama)--Mara is an energy that runs through all the chakras from the crown and lifts negative energy, past trauma, past karma, where the mind and acknowledge it and release it. Mara balances the yin/yang.  Repairs holes in the aura.

AUMINAHT--the energy associated with Auminaht flows from a vast, ancient, wise and loving source quite 'ancient' from the reality of our daily existence. The intent of this source is simply to assist in bringing a little more love to our part of the galaxy.  This symbol will connect with an energy of alignment and harmony from that source.   Similar to the Sea Breeze symbol.  This energy seems pigmented, powerdery and greenish, with a background hue of indigo.  This symbol does much to align the mental capacity with the heart center. You are cautioned to use this symbol only with those who walk consciously on their path.  This symbol is strong and useful for those who speak out, and those who bring their ideas of the mind into the world.

ANTAHKARANA-- [written by Arthur L. Robertson  Ph.D].   Antahkarana is a sanscrit word meaning the 'bridge between two worlds' (heaven and earth--etheric and physical).  This is Tibetan in origin and in actuality is a computer generated process that produces color from musical notes of specific harmonics. This enables one to treat afflicted areas of the body with the harmonics of color and sound. (Our spirits are made up of color, sounds, and vibration, Noah)  It is invisible to the normal hearing spectrum of the human ear, although some paranormally gifted people can actually 'see' the waves of energy coming off the surface of the plates.
    These plates, when applied to the human body, ease pain and discomfort and prevent breakdowns in the body  structure.  The body consists of a harmonic structure and any change within this harmonic structure is the cause of pain, discomfort and disease. Harmonic treatment will assist in the renewal and restructuring of the natural pattern of colors and sound within the body.
    The molecules that form the tissues of our bodies are electrical entities, and the largest proportion of the diseases that affect our bodies are due to an electrical deviation from the norm in the structure of molecules. Purpose
The purpose of the Usui healing system is to maintain unity of  the self (body, mind and spirit) through harmony and balance.

Origins
The Usui healing system has clear origins in what is known as Traditional Chinese Medicine, a method laid out in the Yellow Emperor's Classics Ling Shu, Su Wen and Nan Jing. This uses a number of meridians and channels that carry the energy around the body once every 24 hours. The flow of energy through these pathways may be influenced by means of both external methods (acupuncture and projected qigong) and internal methods (qigong meditation). Usui's system uses the hand to project qigong energy into the recipient's energy pathways.
