Welcome to the INFO page.  This page contains information that is seen on the news, heard on the radio, and read in the newspaper.  All information used is fully supported by and the opinion we are attempting to achieve.

To begin, let's start with Volusia County schematics.  Volusia County hosts approxiamately 22 miles of beach divided by an inlet (Ponce Inlet).  Vehicles are allowed legally to drive on (or about) half of Volusia County Beaches.  The extreme north and south ends of Volusia County Beaches have never been opened to public traffic and are inaccessible by family vehicles.

Driving on the beach has attracted millions of tourists here and even helped to start NASCAR.  Volusia County beaches also led to the beginning of the Daytona 500 (the most heralded NASCAR race).  At one point, it was legal to drive any time on the beach, for free.  Now, the Sea Turtle Patrol threatens this unique, one-of-a-kind beach experience.

The Sea Turtle Patrol is a group started by the Marshall's, a couple located in New Smyrna Beach.  They went through a lengthy process, through federal court, and achieved a status that Loggerhead Sea Turtles are in danger of being extinct, and that driving on the beach directly causes their endangerment.  Then the Sea Turtle Patrol, and their "experts", decided that light also endangers Loggerheads.  Thus, a new lighting law was passed last year, if you live on the beach, you must conform to the lighting regulations or face a 1,000 to 5,000 dollar fine.

Unfortunately for us, the public, we never knew what would be derived from this Sea Turtle Madness.  I, for one, never thought beach driving would be stopped.  Nor did I think that a law regulating light's would be created.  Now I wonder what other surprises the Sea Turtle Patrol have up their sleeve?
