This year only two members from the Pelangi MTB Team joined the competition. That includes my dad, Hj Zainal Hj Sulaiman and his friend, Amit. All participants did their warming-ups as early as 6.50am. They were only around 100 participants this year compared to 400, last year. This competition were divided into three groups namely A, B, C and D. Category A (Open aged between 16-39), Category B (Veteran aged 40 above), category C (Kids under the age 15) and category D (VIP). The competition started at exactly 8am. Category A was first to go followed by B, C then D. The way they go was from Keriam to Muara-Tutong highway and back. Their turning point was at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. The temperature on that day was blazing hot. Some of the supporters even followed the competitors from behind by their own cars. Every competitor sprinted starting 500 metres away from the finishing line. It was an exciting scene to see. Every competitors were eager to be the champion. The sound of the bicycles cycled were heard shouts from supporters were everywhere, snapshot were taken at the high moments, it was an experience that should've experienced by all the people who love this thing. At the end of the event category D was won by Awg Idris bin Hj Ali Akbar, category C won by Md Zaim bin Baha, category B was was by Hj Harun Hj Saman and Masri bin Matassan won the Open category. Although the Pelangi MTB Team didn't won any top three places but Hj Zainal Hj Sulaiman managed to be in the fifth place bringing back home a participating trophy. Amit, on the other hand didn't managed to finish the race as he had an accident just 300 metres away from the finishing line. but luckily no one was seriously injured. After the prize giving ceremony, the lucky draw event started. before the day ended, they had a light snack and went home after that. |
