The group containd singer/guitarist Daniel Johns, bassist Chris Joannou and drummer Ben Gillies firts started playing at the age of 12 in there australian home town of newcastle, Only a few years later their song "Tomorrow" won a natinal compotiton and soon became a number1 hit in Australia and New Zeland,Then in 1995 the bands debute album "Frogstomp" was released. Although it sounded soo much like the northenwest U.S. grunge bands, it was a hit, Even courty Love noticed it resembled her late husband Cobain, and people were talking about his vocal resemblance of Eddy Vader of Pearl Jam.
Silverchair were getting alot of bad press eaely on because of the bands age, but as far as Silverchair were concerned they were taking the music world very serious, finishing school and doing worldwide toures at the same time. Silverchair showed the press in 1998 when the follow up album showed the group had realy come of age musically, with songs like "Freak" "Cemetary" and "Pop song for us rejects" this album would only go up in the world, at this time the silverchair fan base was well over what they set out for.
Then in 1999 the band released there no1 hit album, it went number1 in the 4countrys but still the critics wouldnt embrace them, the stand out song on this album was titled "Ana's song (Open fire)" not as heavy as "Anthem for the year 2000" and "Emotian sickness" but still an amazing song. The bands hardest time came on the eve of the release of the bands 4th album titled "Diorama", singer/guitarist Danial Johns had the come down with the serious illness, that illness was Arthritis that started in his knees and spred to his left wrist which leaves him in alot of pain, This gave the press alot to work with striaght away the hit the papers saying Silverchair have pulled out of there tour dates because of self belife, so Johns spoke out by saying "Aslong as people know we are not touring because im sick and not because i am lazy", but althought Silverchair cant back up the album with a tour it still sold well.
