Galloping gargoyles! This paper is supposed to be three feet, and I've only got seven inches so far!
Okay, just a few notes before we get started:
ONE: my policy on fanfiction I'm not the biggest fan of fanfiction, but some stories are pretty good, and I enjoy reading them. Some others absolutely discust me. For me, good fanfiction is bound by certain conditions: A) they stay true to the written and intended spirit of all the characters B) the characters don't do anything they wouldn't do if it was written by the author (in this case JKRowling) C) there will be no shipping unless the pair is already in the books (such as Harry&Cho, even though that turned out a disaster, Ron&Hermione, which JKR has said, even though it hasn't been published yet, or James&Lily...you get the idea), as it is my belief that pairing characters is the sole right of the author D) the story follows the rules set down by the book and doesn't contradict the plot or come up with impossible theories. I'm not just making this stuff up on top of my head - it comes from my own experiance as a writer, and how I know I would want other people to treat my books - with respect. Any fanfiction that does not go by these guidelines (oh, and it should be rated PG-13 also), will not be put up.
TWO: on poetry I love poetry myself, but I can't stand poorly written poems. Rhyming is fine, but not when that's the focus of the piece. A Ryhme or a rythem should complement and fit in with the work. That's what I consider decent poetry. Again, only PG-13 stuff, and please have it be about something HP related, and not just some random poem. Let me clarify on my rhyming point - this does not mean the poem can't be fun, or use rhyme to add a bit of humor to it, I just don't want anything like: "Fluffy is my cat / fluffy is so fat...etc."
THREE: on essays Feel free to send in any Harry Potter realted essays you want! I love a good essay - and I'm not talking about those horrid assignments from school. A critique of a subject or an opinion piece is wonderful when it's about something you love! No need for a thesis, or set paragraph form, or crap like that - just write! I would love to here you scholastic opinions!
Now, with that out of the way, please email any literary works of your own to me here, and be sure to put in the subject line HP Piece for Scrolls. And I hope to be reading and posting your stuff.
