Thin Strands of Remembrance

THIN STRANDS OF REMEMBRANCE

Clutching thin strands of remembrance,
Memories of a childhood,
Worn and battered like my favorite teddy bear,
I inspect each one,
Lovingly reliving even the most painful of memories.
And as I stand here on the bridge,
between the past and the future,
My heart singing bittersweet melodies,
the tears falling swiftly and softly down my cheek,
I feel your arm around my waist,
and your eyes on my face.
Suddenly the past becomes lonely and merely the past.
The future peers at me brightly,
and soon I'm looking into its eyes,
watching us grow up and on together.
As the vision disappears, I turn to you like a child,
and say simply , "I love you"
And I know that I always will.
