Past Through A Doorway

THE PAST THROUGH A DOORWAY

Doors, once open,
Are closed now
And the locks,
Which once stayed open
Are now rusted shut
The peeophole, rarely needed
Is black with dirt and grease
The hallway between our hearts
Was once an open place
But now the ceiling has caved in
And the walls are falling down
Where once we sat and talked for hours
Lies a tombstone
And on it reads
"may the pieces left lying here
of our hearts once bold and free
remain forever together."
And as I stand on my side of our door
Trying desperately to see
I remember how it used to be
When the door between us
Was always open.
