Welcome to Computer Tips, your local source for computer help and information. This is your host, Doug Bocaz-Larson, computer science program manager at the Grants Campus of NMSU.
Today’s computer tip topic is: Ctrl Alt Del
Three keys to getting you out of trouble with your computer: Ctrl Alt Del. If your computer freezes, you know what to do, use ctrl alt del. If you see the blue screen of death, never fear, ctrl alt del is here.
Ctrl Alt Del has to be one of the best inventions ever. It restarts your computer and you’ll find yourself free from some frustrating computer crisis. Sometimes if your computer isn’t working correctly, restarting it is a great first step to solving the problem.
But why are these keys so far apart? It’s not something you can do with one hand unless you do some serious stretching and you have some very long fingers. The inventor of this reboot sequence, David Bradley, explained why he made the keys so far apart. He simply didn’t want people hitting this key combination accidentally. In fact, he didn’t want people using the key combination at all. It was just something he added for his own use in PCs, but word got around because it’s such an easy way to get out of problems.
At the 20th anniversary celebration of the PC, Bradley joked about his idea. He said, "I may have invented control-alt-delete, but Bill Gates made it really famous.” Needless to say, Bill Gates was not amused.
Ctrl-alt-del. When your PC is stuck and you think you’re in trouble, never fear. Ctrl-alt-del is here.
