"Accent On...." - SOD

During a recent break, Nathaniel Marston experimented with a new look -- but viewers didn't get to see it. The actor, who was growing a beard, explained his facial hair preferences to Digest.

So, is Al getting facial hair -- or is it just you? "This is just me. I had some time off for two weeks. It's coming off today. I like to be able to change my face. Guys can't wear makeup. Well, we can, but it was cool to wear eyeliner in the '80s. It's not now -- you just look odd. So, this is how we get to play with our look. You can do a little goatee, a little beard. I'll probably play with [my sideburns] and shave this out one day and just have lamb chops. I may go and say, 'Give me big chops.'"

You had big chops on ATWT. "What's funny about that is when I started I had these big sideburn things and they let me keep them. And a lot of guys on the show would poke fun -- I had this greaser thing going. When I got this job [at OLTL], I hadn't looked at any magazines for, like, two years, and they're everywhere in this building. So, I'm flupping through them and there are a couple of guys -- I won't mention any names -- guys who used to rib me about the chops who are sporting the longer sideburns now."

Trendsetter! "A lot of the hair people on different shows ... are into it and go, 'Those are great, those are cool.' So, it's hard to know if people have chosen to do this, or if it's the hair people saying, 'Those are neat.'"
