Will it Float?

Content

  • KCCT SCE-1.1.1 - Objects have many observable properties such as size, mass, shape, color, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to react to other substances. Some properties can be measured b y using tools such as metric rulers, balances, and thermometers.
  • KCCT SCE-1.1.2 - Object may be made of one or more materials such as paper, wood, and metal. Objects can be described by the properties of the materials from which they are made. Those properties can be used to separate or classify objects or materials.

Objectives

  • The student will predict which objects will float and record predictions on record sheet.
  •
  • The student will experiment to find out which objects will sink and which will float and record results on record sheet.

Essential Question

  • Which objects will float?

Assessment

  • A four point scoring guide will be used in assessment of activity.
4 The student made accurate predictions on the record sheet and recorded accurate results of the experiment on the record sheet.
3 The student made predictions on the record sheet and recorded results of experiment on record sheet.
2 The student made some predictions on the record sheet and recorded some results of experiment on record sheet.
1 The student did not make predictions or did not record results from experiment on record sheet.
