The lyrics just came to me while playing it one time. I was kind of humming the tune while playing it pretty lively, and Alizarin was sitting there, so I started singing about her, and the rest sort of spilled out.
The recording is somewhat formulaic, in that I lay down the rhythm guitar and bass on top of the drums, then the vocals, then do fills with the Gretsch. It sounded way too bubbly, so I distorted the Gretsch a bit to add a little edge.
