To Kill a Mockingbird Final Essay
Answer one of the questions below in an essay of at least three paragraphs. Your evidence must include a minimum of three quotes from the text, with page numbers cited in your paper. Your essay should make an argumentative claim. You may address and refute a particularly strong counter-argument to your claim, if necessary. If you have another brilliant topic you want to talk about and can make an argument about it, speak with me before you pursue it further.
- Do Scout, Jem, or Dill mature throughout the novel? Pick one of these characters and argue whether or not they have matured by the end of the novel and in what way. Remember to use at least three quotes from the book as part of your evidence.
- There is a clear hierarchy of social classes in Maycomb County. Determine which character is concerned most with social class in the book and argue why they are using examples from the text.
- To what extent does Scout become Aunt Alexandra’s vision of a “perfect little girl” by the end of the novel? Even if she does not change at all, illustrate this by giving examples from the beginning, middle, and end of the book that show she has not changed.
- Atticus says to truly understand someone, one has to really put themselves in another person’s skin. Pick the character you think does this the best in the book and, using at least three quotes, prove why this person succeeds more than others.
