            I am writing to express my wholehearted recommendation that Emily be admitted to this summer program. I have had the pleasure to work with Emily in my English 9 class this past trimester, and watching her mature as a person and responding to her in-class work has been a wonderful experience.

            I would recommend Emily for this program for a number of reasons. Emily demonstrates a keen sense of social consciousness is both her argumentative essays and self-directed free writes. Her essay on To Kill a Mockingbird illustrated a distinct awareness and concern with class hierarchies. She even felt compelled to complete a personal essay that addressed racism ingrained in social institutions such as sports and the general media. In addition to this social consciousness, Emily’s organizational skills are superior. Her writing assignments are always well-argued, well-thought out, and completed with care.

            Emily is also a student who would greatly enhance the social atmosphere of your program. She not only works effectively with peers she knows, she is always willing to work with new students in class. She also brings a great deal of humor and fun to all of the group work I have seen her participate in during class. Furthermore, her interests spread beyond academics; she always appears dedicated to extra-curricular participation such as her membership to the field hockey team.

            Working with Emily has been an absolute delight this term. Her well-defined balance of academic organization with social flourish would be an exciting addition to your program.
