Windows
Longhorn
What was officially meant
to be a Windows XP service pack came out to be the beginning
of a new Windows. While the first service pack for WinXP
came out a month ago, the new Windows, now known as "Longhorn",
is planned for 2005. The interface is going to be completely
different from the one of current Windows. It's told to
be even more effective and more ergonomic. The network capabilities
are expected to be largely improved.
So let's hope Microsoft has
learned something from Linux in terms of security, compatibility
and system stability. Despite some minor faults, everybody
is going to hope for a soon alpha or even beta release,
but hopefully these releases won't be as incompatible with
the current hardware as Windows XP was at its beta#1 and
beta#2 stages.
