DOOM III
|
Doom III is the biggest revolution in the gaming industry since Doom I. Many of us couldn't even run Doom I, 'cause its requirements were monstereus. This alpha version has beautyful graphics, graphics never seen anywhere before. Many of us know that all the objects(characters, levels, etc.) in a game are modelled by using a technique callled mesh modelling. The objects in this game seem like modelled with a technique called nurbs modelling. A nurbs model has nearly infinitesimal round curves, we nearly can't see any sharp edges making up a curvy edge (mesh modelling). Not to forget the modelling was done in Maya, which is well known from the movie Final Fantasy. We tend to think current computers aren't capable of running such graphics. But, we're wrong. The screenshots below were shot during the game and were all rendered by the actual game engine. The machine I played it on is an AthlonXP 1800+, 256Mb DDR, GeForce4 MX440, 7200rpm HDD. The avarage frame rate was cca 25fps, only some scenes where 4-5 monsters apeared were lagging a bit. Despite that the game seems optimized perfectly without any clipping. Some small graphics optimisations are left but everything else seems perfect, considered that it's an alpha version.
This is the opening
cinematic which ends by transfering you directly into the first person
view.
By
the look, the main character seems like coming directly from a mental
hospital.
This
is how the bodybuilder looks blown off with a shotgun.
