AMD Athlon
(Barton Core)
Here are some images of the
first line of new AMD's AthlonXP processors based on the
new Barton core!
The core itself looks like the one of previous AthlonXP
processors with Thoroughbred core. Its small increasement
in size is caused by the increasement of L2 Cache memory
to 512kB. The processor's codename tells us the Front Side
Bus (FSB) clock, which is at 333MHz.
The processor featured on
the pics (left) has a frequency of 1833MHz. AMD officials
announced that the first AthlonXP processors with Barton
core will be the AthlonXP 2800+, which real frequency should
be 1833Mhz. This processor is meant to compete with Intel's
Pentium4 2.8GHz, which real frequency is 1000MHz bigger.
The question is: Will it really succeed?
