The Hero

An outpouring of support from the masses to the hero who has returned from slaying the beast that had a liking to go after the townsfolk.
A hero.
He saved them.
How brave
and strong
and selfless
and how they cheered
and tossed up their hats
and looked on in awe
bright luminescent awe
shimmering like a band of copper
at the bottom of a pond.
Such glory
Such honor
How his bloodstained armor shone in the sun.
So much blood.
So much blood on the hands of the hero.
