~ CHAPTER TWO ~

Just like on General Hospital both Ned and Alexis had versions of seeing the one person in the world that would indeed tell them they were making a mistake. AJ informed Ned he was never going to hold on to Alexis if he made an honest woman out of her. And Helena informed Alexis that marrying a Quatermaine would bring her nothing both grief.

Alexis is inside the suit getting ready to become Mrs. Alexis Ashton, or should I say Ned wife but still Alexis Davis. When there is a knock at the door. �Who is it?�

�Who do you think it is? Let me in.�

Alexis opens the door and they are both taken back. He can hardly breathe as he catches the sight of her in a simple but tasteful wedding dress. She grabs his arm and pulls him inside quickly shutting the door.

�Nobody followed you did they?� A paranoid Alexis asked.

Ned placed his hands on her face. �Sweetheart you need to calm down. Nobody even knows we�re here.�

�I know.� She replies through a deep breath. �I just want this all to go away. I want to Alexis Davis attorney at law again.......not Alexis Davis as known as �Eddie�s Angel��

�After today the press will leave us alone and we won�t have to deal with them anymore.� He stated as someone knocked on the door. �That must be the justice of the peace. Are you ready?�

�Ready as I�ll ever be I guess.�

Ned opens the door and lets him in. �Thank you so much for coming on such short notice.�

�No problem I do this all the time.� The man replies. �I hope you don�t mind but I�ve asked my wife to stand in as a witness.�

�That�s a very good idea.� Alexis replies as she shakes the woman�s hand.

�So should we get the two of you married?�

Ned and Alexis looked at each other and sighed. He took his hand and grabbed hers. �Are you ready to become Mrs. Ned Ashton?�

�Mrs. Ned Ashton?� Alexis asked like it was a fate worse then death. �I had no intention of changing my last name.�

Her statement caught Ned off guard as it felt like she stuck a knife through his heart.

�I�ve worked to hard at becoming who I am and I don�t want to lose that.� She replied quietly knowing deep down inside she was killing him.

�Fine.� Ned said as he kissed her cheek �if you don�t want to take my name you don�t have to.�

�Your not mad are you?�

�No not at all. I was just a little shocked that�s all.�

�I hate to interrupt here but if you�re going to get married we need to get started, I have another wedding to perform in a half-hour.�

Ned once again took Alexis� hand and smiled at her. �You ready?�

�Let�s do it!� Alexis barely spit out as they turned their attention back to the justice of the peace.

As the justice of the peace spoke neither listened. Ned�s mind was still spinning from the words AJ spoke earlier.

�Anything after wedding number uno makes you a loser like me, what�s the point of till death due us part?�

�Once you turn your girlfriends into your wives you have no place to hide, they�re stuck with you......with no escape and soon........Very soon they realize how charming you aren�t.�

�You�re unlovable Ned.......no one will ever love you, not really, not for love.�

Alexis looked over at Ned and closed her eyes as Helena�s words filled her head as well.

�Mousy little Mrs. Ashton wearing pearls sipping good bourbon hoping that the new nanny will last.........and so weary of doing absolutely nothing.�

�Chubby little Mrs. Ashton.......heavy set Mrs. Ashton............copulate Mrs. Ashton. Being seen in a teddy won�t be a problem. No one will notice you at all you will be invisible.�

The word �invisible� played over and over again in Alexis, just as �you�re unlovable Ned� played over and over again in his. They both turned looked at each other and took a deep breath. They opened their mouths to say something as bright flashing lights filled the room.

�What the hell!� Ned yelled. �Get out of here.� He added as the report walked closer, snapping even more pictures.

Alexis covered her face and feel back onto the couch as the Justus of the peace helped Ned throw the report out. Ned looked over at Alexis and then motioned to the Justus of the peace and his wife that their service was no longer needed. Questions were shouted out as they made their way out the door.

Ned walked over to Alexis and pulled her into a sitting position and then he sat down placing her body against his.

�Why is this happening to us Ned? How�d they even find out we were here let alone getting married?�

Ned rubbed her shoulder. �It must have been when we got our blood test done.� He shakes his head. �I am so sorry this isn�t how I wanted our wedding to turn out.�

Alexis turns to look at him. �I know...and I don�t blame you.�

�Why not I blame myself.�

�I�m surprised some day's you don�t blame me.� Alexis replied as she laid her head against his chest.

�Blame you for what........This is my entire fault.�

�For showing up in that hotel room without letting you know I was even coming. I should have never been dressed like that.�

Ned sat Alexis up and looked at her. �I loved.......loved the way you looked, but more importantly I loved the fact that you were there waiting for me.�

�I should have called.�

�But that would have ruined your surprise.�

�Some surprise.� Alexis stated.

Ned kissed her on the forehead and then pulled her close. �Come here. This too shall pass.�

Ned and Alexis are on the plane headed back to Port Charles.

Ned looked over at her and smiled. �Penny for your thoughts.�

�I was just thinking.� She looks at him. �That maybe..........�

�Maybe what?� He asked as he gently rubbed down the side of her face.

�Getting married on a tropical island without any friends or family was a bad idea anyway.�

�You know I think you�re on to something.� Ned replied as Alexis gave him a this doesn�t sound good look. �I think we should have a big wedding and invite half the town along with the press.�

�Ned Ashton have you lost what�s left of you�re mind?� She screamed

�No think about it. We�ll make the press sick in tried of us. They�ll see how uninteresting and normal we really are and they�ll just go away.�

�I don�t know Ned........sounds awful risky.�

�And since when has Alexis Davis ever back down from a challenge?� He asked as he raised his eyebrows at her and she rolled her eyes and started laughing.�
