| . ~Chapter Seven Alexis walks into her suite and hears the shower running. Ned's awake she thinks to herself before sitting down on the couch. She pulls out her home pregnancy test from her purse and stares at it. She's so lost in her thoughts that she doesn't even noticed that Ned turned the shower off. A few minutes later Ned walks out in his bathrobe and notices Alexis, he walks over to her. He sits down next to her and takes the test out of her hands, she doesn't move. She just sits there and stares off into space for a few moments as Ned watches her trying so desperately to figure about by her lack of emotions what's going on in her head. Ned: How long have you had this? Alexis:(looking down) About three days now. Ned: Why haven't you taken it? Alexis: I don't know. Ned: (nodding his head) Do you want to take it now? Alexis: I don't know. Ned: (after a few moments of silence) Do you want me to leave? Alexis: No. Ned: (placing his arm around her shoulder) Then what do you want? Alexis; (looking at him) This all to be a bad dream. Ned: I take it then you want the test to be negative. Alexis: (crying) Yes Ned: (with sadness in his voice) May I ask why? Alexis; I don't ..............I don't want to become a mother...(Ned sighs) I'm not ready. Ned: I don't think anyone really ever is. Alexis: What about you? (Ned looks at her) Do you really want to become a father again? Ned: (half smiling) To be honest with you at first no. Alexis: And now? Ned: Now..............well before this conversation I was actually starting to like the idea. Alexis: Before this conversation? Ned; (tears in his eyes) If you don't want this baby Alexis how can I possibly be happy. Alexis: (standing up and walking shortly away) I'm sorry. Ned: Don't be...........just take the test (he hands it back to her) Alexis: I don't know if I can. Ned: (hugging her) You can. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A few minutes later Alexis comes back into the living room with the results in her hand. Ned who has been sitting on the couch waiting for her to return stands up and looks at her. She walks over to him and holds him tight and cries on his shoulder. Ned holds her tighter as she cries harder. Ned: It's going to be okay one way or another it's going to be okay. Alexis: I hope your right. (Ned pulls away from her and takes the test out of her hand) This isn't what I wanted.......then again no matter what the test proved it isn't what I wanted. Ned: I thought you'd be happy if the result was negative. Alexis: I thought so too. Ned: (confused) So you're happy that your pregnant? Alexis: No. Ned; But you just said. Alexis; I know what I said.............problem is I don't know what I feel .............what I'm suppose to feel.........right now all I feel is num. (she sits on the couch) why is this happening now.....now when our life is finally get on the right track. I have three wonderful friends a loving family with a man I disparately love and need........and now I feel like I'm being pulled back into that insecure world I've always lived in. I don't want to live in that world anymore Ned..........I want to be happy and care free. Ned: And a baby............my baby..........our baby won't make you happy. (She just looks at him, she knows she's hurting him but can't help the way she feels) Alexis sweetheart a baby is just one more step to becoming a family a real family. Alexis: (getting up and walking away) I'm sorry Ned but I honestly don't want to have a child....... at least not now. Ned; But now is when you are pregnant........you can't tell the kid to wait another year, your pregnant now! Alexis; Ned please you don't understand. Ned; You're right I don't Ned goes into the other room shuts the door and gets dressed. Alexis sits on the chair at the table and cries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alexis is sitting at the table whipping the tears from her eyes when there is a knock at the door. She gets up to answer it. Alexis: Come in. Jax; Or you okay? Alexis: Not really. (he holds out her arms and she falls into them) I'm pregnant. Jax: I take it this isn't good news.............or is it that Ashton isn't happy about the baby.......because if he's done anything to hurt you I'll ........ Alexis: (letting go of him) It's not Ned it's me.........I did the one thing I didn't want to do Jax.....I hurt him. Jax; Where is he now? Alexis: In the other room getting dressed. Actually he's been in there about an hour now but he just hasn't come out..........I don't know maybe he's waiting for me to leave or something. Jax; (concerned) Why would he be waiting for you to leave? Alexis; So he doesn't have to face me. Jax: Alexis he loves you! Alexis: Jax I told him I didn't want to have this baby. Jax: (shocked) I take it he didn't take it well? Alexis: How well would you take it if Brenda were pregnant and she told you she didn't want the baby she was carrying.........your baby? Jax; Would you like me to talk to him. Alexis; (shaking her head) Thanks but I think he really just needs to be alone right now. Would you mind giving me a ride to the studio? Jax; Or you sure you want to go to work right now? Alexis: No but I don't want to be here either...........Ned needs time the least I can do is give it to him. ~Chapter Eight The Quatermaine Rose Garden. Lila is sitting outside admiring the scent when Ned walks up behind her. Ned: Good Afternoon Grandmother the garden looks lovely today. (he lends down and kisses her) Lila: Ned what a lovely surprise how are you? Ned: (sitting down across from her) I'm lost and confused Grandmother. Lila: Tell me what's troubling you dear! Ned: Alexis is pregnant and she's not happy about it.......as a matter of fact she doesn't even want the baby. Lila: I'm sorry dear. Ned; I don't know what to do Grandmother I love her so much. But the idea of her caring our child and not wanting it, how am I suppose to deal with that. Am I just suppose to accept it and move on like it never happened? Lila: She doesn't plan on getting rid of the baby does she? Ned: I don't know what she wants to do about it.....abort it......give it up for adoption.........(sarcastically).have it raise by nannies and servants. Truth be told Grandmother we never really talked about it. Lila: Why not? Ned; I suppose because I never gave her a chance.......she told me she was pregnant and didn't want the baby........ our conversation basically ended with me telling her I didn't understand her. Lila: Ned just give her time. Ned; Time to do what? I'm sorry Grandmother but in this situation time isn't something I can afford to give her. Lila: At least give her a few days. Give her enough time to get her feelings in order and to adjust to being pregnant and become a mother. Don't do something your both going to regret. And Ned dear ask yourself, if she ends up not having this child is it really worth it to lose her as well? Ned: Thank you Grandmother , I'll give it some thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's getting cold and dark when Ned who is walking along the docks spots Alexis sitting on a bench. He walks over to her and takes off his jacket placing in over her shoulders before sitting down. Alexis: Thank you. Ned: Not a problem. (she half smiles) What are you doing out here so late, and by yourself might I add? Alexis: Thinking.........besides I can take care of myself! Ned: I know you can.......I just don't like the idea of you catching pneumonia or something,. Alexis: It seems so weird. Ned: What does? Alexis: the two of us sitting here talking like we're practically strangers rather then lovers. Ned: I don't know what to say to you. Alexis: Then why didn't you just keep walking? Ned: because I love you and I know your hurting and I hate to see you in such pain. Alexis: I'm sorry Ned I really am it's just...... Ned: The way you feel.........I don't want you to be upset about how you feel, you have a right to feel the way you do. It's just hard for me to accept it.............Have you thought at all about what you plan on doing about it? Alexis: some...........I made an appointment with a doctor for first thing tomorrow morning........after that I don't know. Ned: Would you like me to go with you? Alexis; I'd like that. Ned:(standing up and putting his hand out to her) Can I walk you home? (she looks at him sadly) I promise I won't stay! Alexis:(getting up and taking his hand) Thank you, that would be nice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ned walked Alexis all the way home and neither spoke a word. They were now standing outside her hotel door, still neither one spoke. Ned opened the door for her with his key and walked her inside. He kissed here goodnight and began to leave. Alexis: Ned wait. (he turned back to look at her) I really don't want to be alone, can you stay a while. I could order room service and we could watch a movie or something. Ned: I'd like that, but I'd rather we just sat and talked. Alexis: I'm not really much into talking tonight. Ned; Fine then can we just sit and hold one another and listen to music. Alexis: I'd like that. Alexis went into the other room and changed her clothes while Ned ordered room service and turned on the radio. When Alexis came back into the room she curled up onto the couch next to Ned. She laid her head on his chest as he played with her hair. Ned: Alexis promise me something? Alexis: What's that? Ned: That you don't do anything without talking to me about it first. Alexis: I won't I promise...........can you promise me something? Ned: I can try. Alexis: That no matter what happens we don't lose what we have between us? Ned: I'm sorry Alexis but right now I don't know if I can make that promise.......I can tell you that no matter what I'll always love you. Alexis: And I'll always love you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Chapter Nine~ The next morning Alexis is in the waiting area of Doctor Newmans office reading a magazine when Ned walks in. He walks over and kisses her good morning. Ned: Sorry I'm late, did you sleep well last night after I left? Alexis: As well as I could. The doctor should be here soon apparently your not the only one running late. Ned: I guess I didn't miss anything then. Alexis: Beside the nurse taking my blood pressure and doing a urine test.......nope. (they laugh) Dr. Newman: (walking in) Sorry I'm late but I just had the privilege of delivering a health baby boy. Come on why don't we go into my office. They walk into his office and sit down. Dr. Newman goes over her test results. Dr. Newman: Well Miss Davis according to these test your going to have a baby, congratulations. Alexis: So now what do we do? Dr. Newman: well we determine how far along you are and (laughing) run some more test. Your Husband is more then welcome to come with you if you'd like. Ned; (seeing that Alexis is uncomfortable) I'm the baby's father but we aren't married. I think I 'll just wait in the outer room if that's okay. Dr. Newman; that's fine it won't take long. Alexis goes with the doctor while Ned waits, after about 45 minutes Alexis comes out. Ned: Everything okay? Alexis: Yea I'm fine. According to the doctor I'm about 10 weeks along. Ned; I didn't realize you were that far along. Alexis: Neither did I.........Can we go for a walk or something. Ned: Sure what do you say we take a walk along the shore. Alexis: Sounds good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About a hour later Ned and Alexis are sitting in the sand with there feet barely touching the water. Ned: I know it's only been a few days since you found out your pregnant but I need to know what you plan on doing about it. Alexis: Ned I don't want to hurt you, you've gotta believe that. Ned: Alexis the only thing I know right now is one I love you and you love me and two your having my child and you don't want it. Alexis: Ned....... Ned: Alexis I don't want you to get rid of this baby! Alexis; While Dr. Newman was examining me I told him I didn't want the baby, I asked him what my options were. Ned: and? Alexis: and I've decided to have an abortion.........I've already made the appointment for the beginning on next week. Ned: (upset) I thought you promised to talk to me before you did anything. Alexis; that's what I'm doing now. Ned:(yelling) So what you're telling me is that my feelings don't count? That I don't have a say in the matter? Alexis: Ned it's my body by all rights it's my choice. Ned: (sarcastically) I'm sorry counselor but this isn't about your legal rights it's about the fact that you are carrying my child as well as yours and I want it. Alexis: Ned this child that I'm carrying wasn't something we planned. Ned; Maybe not but it happened yet the same.........(getting up and looking down on her) How could you kill your own child?.................... Oh that's right I forgot your a Cassidine killing someone is second nature to you. Alexis: That wasn't called for. Ned; (yelling louder) Oh I'm sorry am I suppose to be loving and supporting because you don't want OUR child to see the light of day? Alexis; (getting up) Ned please don't let this come between us.......... Ned: Alexis how could it not? Alexis:I love you! Ned: (taking her face in his hands) I love you too Alexis and that will never change but this isn't about how much we love each other it's about you wanting to destroy our child. Alexis: According to the doctor it's not a child yet. Ned: I don't care what the doctor says. Alexis it's still a life that we made out of our love for one another growing inside you. (pleading with her) Please don't do this! Don't kill our child. Alexis: (walking away from him) Will you please stop saying that. Ned; no damn it not if it will get you to see what your doing is so wrong. Alexis;(yelling) Why..........why Ned.........why is it so wrong because it's not what you want...........Where is there an unwritten law that says two people in love always have to agree with one another. Ned: (tears in his eyes) Alexis if you go through with this it's over between us. Ned through Alexis the keys to his car and walked off, while Alexis just stood there speechless and watched him leave. ~Chapter Ten~ A few days later Alexis sitting in her office at L&B when Stefan comes storming in. Stefan:Would you like to tell me what the hell you've been doing while my Mother has been wrecking havoc all over Port Charles! Alexis: Hello Stefan it's nice to see you too. Stefan: Don't be cute with me Alexis. Alexis: (yelling) Stefan I'm sorry if my life no longer revolves around the Cassidine family, but you have no one to blame but yourself. Stefan; You look like hell. Alexis; Thank you.....I feel like it too .............now what has Helena done now. Stefan: What hasn't she done? She needs to be stopped Alexis and you said you'd help. Alexis: I'm doing the best I can. Stefan: Well it isn't good enough......... see that you do better in the future. Ned: Don't you dare talk to her that way! Alexis: (shocked to see him) Ned what are you doing here? Ned; (to Alexis) I own the place remember.......(turning to look at Stefan) Your not welcome here Stefan! Stefan; I'm here to see my sister. Ned: (laughing) My sister.........you know Stefan I have to hand it to you, you really know how to keep her in line. Alexis; Ned that's enough Stefan was just leaving. Stefan: I'm not leaving until we finish our conversation. Ned: You can either leave or I'll throw you out myself. Alexis; Stefan please just go I'll talk to you later. Stefan; Fine........Ashton this is far from over. Ned: Any day Cassidine! Alexis shuts her office door behind Stefan Alexis; Must you be so cruel and sarcastic all the time? Ned; I've been told it's what I do best. Alexis; (annoyed) what are you doing here anyway, I was under the impression you wanted nothing more to do with me? Ned; You don't look like you've gotten much sleep. Alexis; What can I say I'm not use to spending so many nights alone anymore. But I'm sure you didn't come up here to talk about my sleeping habits. Ned: No I came here to see if you've changed your mind. Alexis; Ned don't you understand it's just better this way. Ned: How is it better Alexis................we haven't even spoken in two days...........your having an abortion against my wishes. Alexis; Ned please just go......... leave me alone. Ned; I've left you alone for two days Alexis and your appointment is tomorrow this is my last chance to get you to change your mind and I refuse to give up without a fight. Alexis: Well I guess we're at a stand still in our relationship then, because you want something I can't give you and I want something you can't give me. Ned: There isn't anything I wouldn't give you! Alexis; yes there is...........your understanding and support. Ned; How can I support something I don't believe in. Alexis: maybe you can't support it but why can't you understand it? Ned; Because I want our child to be given the one thing neither of us have ever had. (he turns and leaves) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later that night Alexis is in her Suite. She has her hands on her stomach and she's talking to her unborn child. Alexis: I'm so sorry little one but this is the best way..........it's the only way. Just then there is a knock on the door. Alexis: (yelling through the door) Ned please I don't want to do this again. Lila: Alexis darling it;'s me Lila Quatermaine may I come in. Alexis: (Answering the door) Lila I'm sorry please come in. Lila: Reginald thank you I'll call you when I'm ready to go. Reginald; Yes Ms. Quatermaine. Lila: My dear you've been crying, is there anything I could do. Alexis; I'll be okay Lila. I take it since you're here Ned informed you of my condition? Lila:Yes he did. Alexis; I also assume he told you about my decision. Lila: He told me that you weren't happy about the idea. Alexis: Lila if I tell you something would you promise not to tell anyone else? Lila; Of course my dear you can tell me anything. Alexis: I don't want to give up my baby but I see no other way........If I have this child Helena will do everything in her power to kill it. I'm so scared, I know it's selfish to destroy it now but I don't think I can handle falling in love with a child and losing it. Lila: my darling I'm so sorry, I know this must be hard for you.........but to never lover someone because you fear for their life is no way to live. My grandson loves you very much. Alexis; Oh Lila I love Ned more then words can say, and I know I've hurt him so bad. He thinks I don't want our child and that just isn't true. But I'd rather have him hate me then watch him slowly die inside when Helena kills or kidnaps our child. Lila: Alexis you do what you think is right but remember. The only true way to be happy is to live for each day as though it was your last day. Don't let other people dictate your life live your life for yourself. |
