. Chapter Eleven It's around 2 am when Jax comes strolling through the lobby of the Port Charles hotel. He's just returned from a late business meeting in New York. He stops at the front desk to check his message and hears glass breaking in the Grill. He walks over to the bar to fine Ned pouring a bottle of Vodka down his throat. Jax: Are you trying to drown your sorrows or break ever glass in the joint. Ned: (who is two shades to the wind) I'm celebrating..........care to join me? Jax: (sitting down next to him) Good thing you own the place Ned or they'll be calling the cops.........So what are we celebrating anyway? Ned: The death of my unborn child. Jax: Did something happen to Alexis? Ned: No Alexis is the one doing it to the baby. Jax: Ok I'm lost what on earth are you talking about? Ned: Alexis has an appointment to................well I guess there isn't any nice way to say this so I'll just be blunt. Jax: please do. Ned: She's having an abortion at 9:00 tomorrow morning. (looking at his watch) No wait today. Jax: I'm sorry. Ned: You know I think the worst part about this whole miserably situation is that this isn't like Alexis. Jax: Your right it isn't I can't see her doing this to herself.........to you.........to the baby! Ned: Well she's doing it! Jax; Have you talked to her, tried to get her.......... Ned: I've done everything Jax to begging, pleading, crying, ...........I even told her that if she went through with this it was over between the two of us. Jax: Ned you can't mean that. Ned: Jax how would you feel about a woman who...........what would you do if you were in my place? Jax: I don't know. Ned: Jax could you do me a favor? (Jax shakes his head) Can you take Alexis to her doctors appointment tomorrow morning, I don't want her to have to go through this alone? Jax: Don't worry Ned I'll make sure she's okay............but what about you, are you planning on sitting here all night with that bottle. Ned: Nope, not this bottle it's empty. Ned goes behind the bar and picks up another bottle and heads off to his room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's 4:00 am and Alexis is sitting on her bed listening to the Opera tape Luke gave her of her Mother. Alexis: (talking to her stomach and slightly crying) I"m sorry..............I know I keep telling you that but it's true. The music your listening to his your grandmothers. I don't remember much about her and I really wish I did. All I know is that Helena killed her and she wants me dead as well. Lately she hasn't been to bothered with me but if she knew I was pregnant she'd kill us both for sure. She'd probably kill your father as well, she never did like the idea that Ned makes me happy................I wonder if you'd have his dimples.........you know your daddy's got dimples to die for, every time he flashes them I give into him.............well almost every time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's 6:00 am and Ned is alone in his room at the PC hotel. He's had way to much to drink and can barely stand. Ned: (yelling) Why........why Alexis why are you doing this? What have I ever done to hurt you so bad?.........ok I know I was an asshole over the Jakarta mess and I said a lot of things I shouldn't have...........I wish to god I could take them back but I can't.........I thought we were passed all of that............I love you Alexis Davis and I don't ever want to lose you.........please don't do this...........please don't kill our baby......... With that Ned throws the empty bottle of Vodka across the room. The bottle hits a mirror and glass is shattered everywhere as Ned passes out. CHAPTER TWELVE It's 8:00 am when Alexis opens the door of her Suite and is surprised to see Jax. Alexis: Jax please come in, what are you doing here? Jax: Ned told me about your appointment today and asked me to take you. Alexis: (annoyed) Jax I know this is hard for him but it's hard for me as well so if he sent you here to try and talk me out of this you can save your breath. My mind is made up and that's all there is to it, I know what I'm doing. Jax: Alexis take a breath.........Ned didn't send me here to talk you out of it he wants me to make sure your alright he doesn't want you to go through this alone. Alexis; (yelling) Well I'm not going through this alone, I've asked Bobbie to go with me..........besides if Ned cared so much then he'd be going with me.........(looking at Jax) I'm sorry I shouldn't be taking this out on you. Jax: It's okay, come here. (he hugs her) Ned isn't here Alexis because he doesn't want you to do this.......it's killing him. Alexis: I know and for that I'm so sorry. (there is a knock at the door) That's probably Bobbie. (she opens the door) Bobbie: Good Morning Alexis how are you feeling? Alexis: I've had better days. Bobbie: Hey Jax are you coming with us? Jax: No I don't think so as long as she's not alone that's all that matters. (he kisses Alexis' forehead) I'll see you later and good luck. Alexis: Thank you Jax for everything! Bobbie; So are you ready to go? Alexis: As ready as I'll ever be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alexis and Bobbie are in the waiting room when a nurse walks up to them. Nurse: Miss Davis I just need you to fill out these forms. Alexis: ok.(She takes the forms and seems to drift off for a while) Bobbie: Alexis..........Alexis Alexis; I'm sorry Bobbie what is it? Bobbie: You know you don't have to do this if you don't want to, it's not to late to walk out that door. Alexis: No it is to late Bobbie I have to do this. (Alexis gets up and hands the nurse the forms) You don't have to stay if you want, they said I'd be here a couple hours. Bobbie; Ok but You call me when you want me to pick you up! Alexis: I will thanks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` A few hours later Alexis is walking along the shore when she picks up her cell phone and calls Bobbie. Alexis: Hey Bobbie it's me Alexis.....I'm sorry I didn't call you I just needed to be alone. Bobbie: Are you okay? Alexis: I feel a lot better now but there are so many things I need to work out. I'll call you later. Alexis picks up her phone and calls the Gatehouse and gets Ned' answering machine. She then tries the main house but Reginald tells her he hasn't seen him. She then calls his room at the PC hotel but when she got no answer there either she called the main lobby. Carlos told her that Mr Ashton went up to his room late last night and nobody's seen him since. She hangs up her phone and heads to the hotel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alexis knocks on Ned' door several times before using her key to let herself in. She opens the door and finds Ned passed out on the floor, there is broken glass all over the place. She walks over to him and notices he's holding something she gently pulls it out. It's the box her engagement ring came in. She looked down to her left hand and smiled after everything that's happened she realized he's never asked for it back. Maybe things can still work out between them she thought to herself before trying to wake him up. Alexis; Ned.......Ned come on it's time to get up. Ned:(in his sleep) Oh please just a few more minutes Alexis I promise I'll get up then. (he pulls her down next to him) Lets just stay here a while and cuddle? Alexis; Ned you're lying in the middle of the living room floor, now come on lets get up. (she manages to pull him to his feet only to have him fall back onto the couch) Ned Ashton I don't know how much you've had to drink but something tells me your going to be paying for it when you do wake up. she grabs a blanket and throws it over him. She lends down and kisses his lips lightly, he grabs her and pulls her down on top of him and into an even deeper kiss. They kiss for a while before he grabs her face and pushes her back. Ned: Alexis what are you doing here? Alexis: I needed to talk to you. Ned: Did you go to your appointment this morning? Alexis: Yes! (Ned pushes her off of him and gets up) Ned please. Ned: (yelling) Alexis I want you to leave, now! Alexis: Ned please can't we talk about this? Ned: No we can't................... Alexis you killed us when you killed our baby! Alexis: No I didn't! Ned: How can you say that..........I asked you not to do it and you did it anyway.........How can I ever forgive you for that. Alexis: And what if I hadn't done it would we be able to work things out? Ned: I don't know..........just the thought that you wanted to kill our baby speaks volumes Alexis! (he walks toward the bedroom) I want you to leave, good bye! Alexis; (yelling) I didn't do it! (Ned stops and looks back at her) Ned: What? Alexis: (crying but calmer) I'm still carrying OUR child. As Ned began to speak Alexis ran past him and straight to the bathroom. As she began to throw up Ned just silently laughed. He thought it was weird that the idea of her getting sick made him so happy. The woman he loves is in the bathroom getting sick and all he could do was smile, well if nothing else it was definitely an ice breaker he though to himself. Alexis walked out of the bathroom and sat down on his bed, Ned lean his head against the door frame and smiled at her. Ned: Feeling better? Alexis: Much thank you. Ned: you know we need to talk. Alexis: I know...........actually there is something I need to tell you and I don't know how! Ned: (walking over and sitting beside her) With as much honesty as you can. Alexis: Well I guess I should start with I never wanted to get rid of our baby. Ned: I don't understand you told me you didn't want it, that you weren't ready to become a mother. Alexis: Trust me Ned Ashton I'm not ready to become a mother............I'm scared I might drop the baby or hurt the baby somehow. Ned: Alexis sweetheart ever good mother worries about hurting their child.........Now would you like to tell me why you made me believe you didn't want our child? Alexis: because of Helena! Ned: (annoyed) Helena, why shouldn't I be surprised! Did she threaten your life or something? Alexis: No, as far as I know she doesn't even know yet. (Ned looks at her confused. Alexis begins to cry) Ned when Helena finds out that we are having a baby she'll................. Ned: (hugs her tight) I'm not going to let Helena hurt you or our child, do you hear me! (he picks up her face and forces her to look at him) You need to trust me on this! Alexis: I do trust you Ned with all my heart it's just........... with that she gets up and runs to the bathroom this time Ned follows her. After she's done getting sick she sits up. He sits down next to her and places his hand on her back. She looks at him and smiles. Alexis: How long is this going to last? Ned: I don't know? Alexis: How often did Lois get sick? Ned: (sadly) I don't know...........she left me while she was still pregnant with Brooke-Lynn.........for all I know she could have gotten sick everyday till she delivered her. Alexis: (looking down) I'm sorry Ned that was really insensitive of me. Ned: No don't worry about it.........besides Lois is the past and we are the future. (getting up and taking her hands) Come on what do you say we get off this cold floor before I get sick! Alexis: (getting up and walking into the bedroom with him) To much to drink last night, huh? Ned: Just a little. (he lies down on the bed and she cuddles next to him) what I could really use right now is some sleep. Alexis: Sounds good to me. Ned: You know we still need to talk about what you almost did............. and Helena! Alexis: (sadly) I know. she closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep, while Ned just lies there and takes a deep breath before playing aimlessly with her hair ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later on that same day Alexis is in Ned's living room picking up the glass and placing it in a bag when Ned walks out. Ned: Hey you. (she turns and smiles at him) Leave the glass alone I'll have someone come in and clean it up later. Alexis: That's okay Ned I'll take care of it. Ned walks over to Alexis takes the bag out of her hand and throws it on the floor. He then puts his hands around her waist pulling her over to the couch. He sits down and pulls her onto his lap and holds her tight. She lays her head on his as he places his head on her stomach. Ned: (in a sweet voice) Hello in there little one it's your daddy. (Alexis smiles and kisses his head) You know there is something I need to warn you about before your born (he looks up at Alexis a moment and then places his head back on her stomach and quietly says) your Mother is crazy. Alexis: (picking up the pillow behind her head and hitting him with it) Ned Ashton. Ned: (throws Alexis back onto the couch and takes the pillow from her) Oh you want to play do you? Alexis: (holding her hands up) You wouldn't dare hit a pregnant woman! Ned: (thinks about it for a moment) All depends on who the pregnant woman is. (with that he tickles her with his one hand causing her to drop her hands and he hits her upside the head with the pillow) Alexis; that was a cheap shoot........you don't play fare. Ned: (laughing and still tickling her) I'm a Quatermaine darling I've never been taught to play fare. Alexis:(laughing) Okay fine I'll give you.......... anything you...... want.......(quickly) as long as you stop. Ned: (still tickling her) Anything? Alexis: (laughing) YES Anything! Ned: (he stops) Deal. Alexis: (lying there looking up at him cautiously) well? Ned; Well what? Alexis: What do you want? Ned: This! He lends down and kisses her, as his hands start to explore her body.She kisses him back passionately and before long they are both lost in the moment. It's the first time in weeks that they've made love and somehow they feel more connected to one another then either thought possible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~Chapter fourteen~ A few weeks have passed and things between Ned and Alexis have gotten much better. Alexis has moved into the Gatehouse and they've set a wedding date. Life was going pretty good. They were in love about to be married and before long their son would be born. It wasn't until they received a phone call one night that suddenly changed there life once again. Earlier that day~~~The Gatehouse~~~~ It's around 4:00 and Ned and Alexis are just getting back from her doctors appointment. They're sitting on the couch talking. Alexis: (happily) I can't believe we are going to have a son. Ned: (smiling) Neither can I...........(pulling her against him) and I can't wait. Alexis: Are you glad we found out? Ned: (excited) Yes! Alexis: You know life is great it just doesn't get any better then this......(getting up and running over to the table) Oh I almost forget the wedding innovations came in the mail today. (she brings one over to him and sits down) Ned: (taking it and reading it) Edward L. Ashton ~~~and~~~ Alexis C. Davis Request the honor of your presents when they unite as one. Sunday December 24th 2000 Ned: (sighing and putting the card down) December 24th I don't think I can wait that long. Alexis: Well you have no other choice, besides you agreed that we would get married after the baby is born. Ned: I still don't know why we have to wait till then..... Alexis: Because I don't want to walk down the aisle 50 pounds over weight. Ned: (laughing) Well I say not, I think you'd be more like waddling. Alexis: (she picks up a pillow and hits him with him) Ned Ashton! Ned: (grabbing the pillow) Alexis, do you remember what happened last time we had a pillow fight. Alexis: (she thinks for a minute and seductively answers) Oh yea! (she gets up and starts to run upstairs) Race ya? Ned: (jumping over the couch and catching her before she makes the stairs) Oh no see first I get to tickle you. (he begins to tickle her) Alexis: (screaming) Ned stop.......stop it Ned.......please? (the phone rings) Answer the phone. Ned: (laughing) No way! Alexis: It might be important. Ned: (he looks at her and lets her go) Fine I'll answer it.........but this isn't over. Ned :(answering the phone) Ashton. Alexis: I'll meet you upstairs make it brief. Ned: (Smiling at her and placing his hand over the receiver) I plan on it. She runs off and doesn't notice when he his face suddenly goes blank. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ned and Alexis' Bedroom Alexis is sitting on the bed waiting for Ned to come upstairs, she looks over at the alarm clock and sighs as he walks in. Alexis: (looking at the clock) I thought you were going to make it brief. (she turns and looks at him and becomes concern) Sweetheart what is it? What happened? Who was that? Ned: (walks over to her and lays his hand against her chest) It was Lois' Father.(he looks up at her) She's been in a car accident. Alexis: Oh no.....is she alright? Ned: (tears form in his eyes) She's in surgery.........she's lost a lot of blood and her chances aren't good. Alexis: I'm sorry, was Brooke with her? Ned: No thank God she was home with her Grandmother. Alexis: How's Brooke taking it? Ned: (getting up and pacing) I don't know...........but I need to be there for her. Alexis: Of course you do.......Do you want me to come with you? Ned: Yes! Alexis: Ok (she gets up and walks over to him) Honey why don't you sit down a moment. I'll pack something's for us. Ned sits on the bed and places his face in his hands. Alexis gently kisses him on the forehead and begins to pack. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ELQ Jet~~~~~ Ned: (holding Alexis) Thank you. Alexis: For what? Ned: For being you.(he kisses her) Alexis: Anytime..........Ned she's strong she's gonna make it. Ned: And what if she doesn't? What if Brooke-Lynn has to grow up without her Mother? It's not fair to do that to a small child! Alexis: (sadly) I know! Ned: I'm sorry! Alexis: Don't be...........besides Lois isn't going to die. Ned: (holding her tighter) I hope you're right! ~Chapter Fifteen~ ~New York City County Hospital~ Ned and Alexis come walking in hand and hand when a little girls comes running up to them yelling. Brooke: Daddy...........Daddy. (she flies into his arms) Ned: (holding her tight) Hey there princess I missed you. Brooke: Mommy's sick. Ned:Yea I know.........but don't you worry because she's going to be all better soon. Brooke: That's what grandpa say's (she looks at Alexis) Where's Chloe? Ned;(looking at Alexis and then back to Brooke) She home sweetie with Uncle Jax but you remember Alexis don't you. Brooke: (nods her head) Yep, hi Alexis. Alexis: Hey Brooke, how are you doing? Brooke: I'm hungry. Ned; Well how about we go and get a hot dog? (Brooke nods her head) ok how about a hamburger? (she nods again) How about............... Alexis: (smiling) Ice cream. Brooke: (her eyes widen) Yes! Daddy can we get ice cream? Ned: Ice cream it is (he puts her down) but first I have to talk to your Grandpa about mommy. Brooke: (grabs Alexis' hand) Can Alexis take me.....please? Ned: (looks at Alexis) well........I.... Alexis:(jumping in) I think it's a great idea. So Brooke what's your favorite flavor? Brooke: Chocolate chip. Alexis: Really mine too. (Ned smiles at her) so what do you say we go down to the cafeteria and see if they have any? Brooke; Daddy are you going to come after you talk to grandpa? Ned;You better believe it. (he kisses her on the top of the head and smiles at Alexis) Thank you. Alexis: Don't worry about us we'll be fine. Come on Brooke lets go get some ice cream. Brooke holding Alexis' hand practically runs to the elevator. Ned watches them and smiles at how at ease Alexis seems to be with Brooke. Mr Cerullo: (walking over to Ned) She's getting bigger by the day. Ned:(sadly) That she is. (turning to face him) How's Lois? Mr. Cerullo: She's still in surgery............and the longer she's in there the more worried I get. (they hug) Ned: I'm sorry. Mr.Cerullo: So am I. I'm just so glad Brooke wasn't with her. Ned: (sighing) So am I. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hospital Cafeteria~~~ Alexis: So how's your ice cream? Brooke: Good, it's not chocolate chip but it's still good. Alexis: Well at least it's chocolate. Brooke: Your silly. (Alexis laughs) your pretty. Alexis: Why thank you.......your a pretty little girl yourself. Brooke: You know what? Alexis: What? Brooke; Mommy doesn't like chocolate ice cream. Alexis: She doesn't? Brooke: Nope but I think daddy does. Alexis: I think so too..........(noticing Ned walking towards them) Uh why don't we ask him. Brooke: daddy do you like Chocolate ice cream? Ned: Well I don't know, can I taste some of yours? (Brooke gives him a big spoon full) Um that's good. (looking at Alexis) What do you say we get out of here? The three of us........how does the playground sound? Brooke: I want to go the playground. Alexis:(like a kid) Me too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A couple hours later Ned, Alexis and Brooke return from the playground. Brooke; Hi Grandpa is mommy a wake. Mr Cerullo: Nope she a sleep for the night just like you should be. Brooke; Can I go home with daddy? Ned: Sweetheart I think you should go home with your grandpa and sleep in your own bed. (Brooke begins to cry and he picks her up) Hey don't cry I'll see in the morning. Brooke: Promise? Ned: Promise. Brooke: Okay I love you daddy. Ned: I love you too. (Brooke leaves with her grandfather) Alexis: (putting her arms around her) Are you okay? Ned: (turning to face her) I was just about to ask you the same thing, you look tried. Alexis: I'm fine, but I'm worried about you. Ned: (placing his hand on her stomach) Don't worry about me you just take care of our son. Alexis: Well now that you mention it he is kinda hungry. Ned: (slightly laughing) When isn't he? Alexis tries to slaps his chest but he pulls her into a deep kiss. |
