{ author�s note....this chapter will be simultaneously going back and forth between past and present....all past refrains are in italics} CHAPTER 10 �Ned that�s not fair I do love you and you know it.� �Do I Alexis?� He questioned. �Well if you do you sure have a funny way of showing it!� That was the last thing Alexis heard Ned yell as a car came speeding up to them. The window of the car slowly opened and bullets flew everywhere. Ned grabbed Alexis but not before getting hit by a stray bullet in the chest. He pushed her down on the ground and landed on top of her. The car speeds off and didn�t return as the two of them lay helplessly on the ground covered in blood! �Ned!� Alexis screamed as she looked around. �Ned get up I think they�re gone!� �Ned!� She yelled once more before looking down at him. �Oh my god NO!� She screamed as she noticed the blood on his jacket and then on the ground next to her and finally on her hands. She picked up her hands and stared at them. �mommy mommy please wake up mommy!� a five year old little girl dressed in a white lace dressed with long auburn hair cried as her mother laid helplessly at her feet, slowly bleeding to death. �Somebody help me!� Alexis screamed as she carefully pushed Ned off of her and on to his back. She gasped for air as she noticed his clothing covered in dark think layers of blood. �mommy mommy I need you.....don�t leave me.� She cried out to no one as she laid her body over her mothers bloody one. Alexis collapsed her body across his chest and closed her eyes. �Please not again I need you Ned Ashton don�t you dare die on me...........don�t you dare leave me!� The little girl sat up and looked down at her dress which was now covered in her mothers blood. �Mommy mommy!� she cried over and over again. Her mother opened her eyes and tried her hardest to picture her one last time. �My baby girl always remember I love you.� Ned stirred slightly and placed his hand on her hand. Alexis was so lost in the past that she couldn�t even feel his touch. �I love you Alexis.� He barely spit out before his hand collapsed back down to the ground and his eyes feel shut. �I love you mommy I love you!� she sat there crying while her mother held out her hand to her. �Don�t worry ma�am I just called 911 and they�re on their way!� A man yelled as he made his way over to them. Alexis just lye there almost as helpless as Ned was with her head buried in his chest. The little girl just sat their looking at her mothers hand to scared to touch it. �I love you Natasha.� The woman said as the strength in her lifeless body gave way. The man placed his hand carefully on Alexis� shoulder and tried to help her sit up. �Are you hurt?� Alexis slowly with his help made her way partially up. Her eyes meet with Ned�s closed ones and she felt like she couldn�t breath. Her emotions were more of anger then anything at this point and she began yelling at him uncontrollably. �Don�t you do this, don�t you dare do this to me.� She grabbed a hold of his shirt and held it tightly in his hands. �Damn you Ned Ashton if you die on me I�ll never forgive you....this isn�t the way things were suppose to happen you promised me you�d always be there for me that you�d never leave me like everyone else did!� The man just sat there confused. He didn�t know how or if he could even help her as her emotion suddenly changed from anger to fear. The tears came flying down so fast and all at once. �Oh no Ned please I love you......I�m sorry I yelled at you before but I need you........I need you even more then I can even begin to tell you....you will always be the number one person in my heart in my world and in my soul.� She once again laid her head against his chest as her heavy tears mixed in with his blood forcing more to fall to the ground. Alexis looked over at the blood on the ground and her tears instantly stopped falling. The little girl got up and walked over to her mother. She was just lying there and covered in even more blood then the little girl thought possible. Slowly the little girl fell to her knees and wiped the tears from her eyes. �mommy please wake up!� she solemnly stated. The sirens in the background grew louder. �I love you mommy! Natasha will always love you.� The paramedic came running over. He grabbed a hold of Alexis�s arm and pulled her off of him. �How long has he been unconscious?� Alexis didn�t say a word. The room quickly felt like an ice box. The little girl got up and walked over to the bed and removed the blanket. �Don�t worry mommy I�ll keep you warm.� She said quietly as she placed the think blanket over her mothers body. Alexis looked up to she the paramedics rolling Ned onto a backboard. �Make sure the woman�s alright!� One paramedic yelled The blanket quickly soaked up the blood and the little girl gasped for air. Alexis stood up and pushed the paramedic walking towards her aside. �I�m going with him!� �You need to be check out!� The paramedic yelled. �We�ll ride in the ambulance behind him.� �No I�m riding with Ned!� She yelled not taking no for an answer. Alexis jumped up into the back of the ambulance and held Ned�s hand tightly. With her free hand she placed her fingers over his lips and rubbed them gently. ~*~ General Hospital Emergency Room ~ �We got in coming!� A intern yelled as the doors flew up. �Kristin sorry I�m late but I promise I�ll make it up to you my love.� A man yelled as he walked up the stairs. Suddenly the little girl became terrified. She didn�t know what to do. She looked down at her mother and then quickly scanned the room. She could here his foot steps getting even closer. She couldn�t breathe as she made her way over to the hope chest and climbed inside closing the lid behind her. �Alexis...Alexis� Monica yelled how long has Ned been unconscious?� Alexis shook her head and grabbed a hold of Monica�s jacket. �Please Monica don�t let him die......I need him!� �I�m going to do everything I can.� Monica replied as they walked into a near by room. �I want someone to look at you and make sure you�re okay.� �I wasn�t hit!� Alexis replied �Dr. Quatermaine we need you STAT he�s flat lining!� A nurse yelled through the hall. �NO!� Alexis yelled as she jumped off the table. Monica ran into the room where Ned was. She pushed the nurse out of the way and franticly began working on him. Alexis just stood outside the glass looking in. Her face was pale and her hands were frozen. She was finding it harder and harder to breathe as time seemed to come to a complete stop. �Kristin my love.� Mikkos yelled as he saw her lying there covered in her own blood. He leaned down next to her and kissed the top of her head before throwing his head up and screaming. �I swear Helena Cassidine I�m going to make you pay for this!!!!� �The little girls tears were strong but the sound was too faint for him to hear.� Alexis laid her hand against the glass and closed her eyes. She then brought her left hand up and pressed it firmly against the glass as well. Suddenly she felt a surge run through her body and she could feel Ned�s love, as her heart took her back to a better time and place. �I wish we could go away somewhere.� Ned smiles at her. �You just got here.� �No, I mean somewhere where we can be together in front of people and not have to please everybody else.� �Well, the secrecy won't go on forever. Once I put Junior in his place at ELQ, we can let everyone know that we're together. Until then, you're my secret weapon. But after that...� Alexis is completely serious �What?� �I want you ensconced in my bedroom every night and in the boardroom everyday.� Monica walks out of the room and places her hand on Alexis shoulder startlingly her back into reality. �Don�t worry Alexis we got his heart beating again.� Monica stated Alexis turned and faced her. �Is he going to make it through the surgery?� �Dr. Doberman is an excellent doctor, which make Ned�s chances of surviving even better.� �But earlier you said the one bullet wasn�t in a very good position.� �It�s not.� Alexis suddenly more so then ever felt like that scared little girl again. That same scared little girl she though would always remain in that damn hope chest. �Can I see him before they take him?� Monica opened the door for her and she walked in. She walked over to the side of the bed and carefully picked up Ned�s hand. Monica pushed over a chair for her and she sat down. �I�ll be right outside. Is there anyone you�d like me to call for you?� Alexis looked at her. �Nikolas please! I know he�d like to be here for Ned.� Monica nodded her head and left the room. Alexis kissed her two fingers and placed them over Ned�s lips. �What would your family think about that?� �Well, they'll wonder what took me so long -- and what took them so long. Except A.J. of course. � �Belonging to a family has always been a dream of mine.� He kisses Alexis on the forehead. �Well, you'll have it. Is there anything else you want?� �To make somebody else happy� �You've already done that. Or don't I count?� Alexis nods her head yes. Ned looks at her lovingly. �Everything you've ever wanted is all here for the taking. All you have to do is hold on to it, and don't let go.� �I have no intention of ever letting you go Ned Ashton.� She lends over and kisses his lips lightly. �And don�t you dare ever forget that.� |
