CHAPTER 34 It was around 2 am by the time Ned and Alexis opted to leave the hospital. Alexis didn�t want to leave but Ned convinced her she needed some sleep and it was best for the twins. �The baby looked so small.� she said as they walked through the door of their hotel room. Ned placed his arms around Alexis and walked her towards the bed. �And just think before long we are going to have two of them.� He pulled back the covers and pushed her back onto the bed. Alexis placed her hands on her stomach and smiled. �Sometimes I just can�t wait.� Ned removed her shoes from her feet and pulled her legs onto the bed forcing Alexis� head to fall back onto the pillow. �Well I can.� He bent over and kissed her forehead. �It�s way to early.� Alexis looked up at him. �Ned I�m not tried why are you putting me to bed.� �Because you promised me if we stayed in the city instead of going back to Port Charles you�d get some sleep.� �Can we just sit on the couch and talk for a little while?� �NO!� Ned stated firmly. �It�s after 2 and you need your sleep.� �I�m to wired to sleep.� She said as her eyes pleaded with his. Ned held out his hand and she took it. He then pulled her onto her feet. �Fine we�ll sit on the couch and talk but only for a little while.� �I love you Ned Ashton.� She said as she kissed his lips. Ned just laughed as she made her way over to the couch and sat down. �So daddy to be do you still think we�re gonna have one of each?� �Daddy to be I like that.� Ned said as he made his way over to the couch. Alexis grabbed a near by pillow and placed it on Ned�s lap before lying her head on it. �So do I.� �The baby was kind of small wasn�t he?� Ned said as he began playing with her hair but got no answer. He looked down and shook his head. �I knew I shouldn�t have let you out of that bed.� He replied as he kissed the forehead of his sound asleep wife. ~*~ ~ Emily�s hospital Room ~ Nikolas and Emily are sound asleep as well as their new born baby. He lies just inches away from them in his basinet. The door to their room opens slowly and a figure stands watch over the child. Nikolas stirs slightly and looks up. �What are you doing here?� �I came to see my great grandchild.� Helena replied. Nikolas careful removes his arm from under Emily�s head and crawls out of bed. He walks over to his grandmother and pulls her out into the hall. They make their way partially down the hall so Emily can�t hear them before Nikolas speaks. �You have no right being here and I want you to leave!� �I knew you wouldn�t want me anywhere near my great-grandchild and that�s the only reason I�m here so late.� �The only reason Grandmother?� Nikolas asked accusingly. �Nikolas what are you accusing me of?� Helena asked playing hurt. �You honestly believe that I don�t know the real reason you are here.� Helena just looked at him. �You had every intention of leaving this hospital with my son in your arms didn�t you?� �Nikolas I would never hurt any child of yours. Even if is half a Quatermaine.� �Back in Greece you threaten my wife and almost killed my son in the process!� �I did no such thing!� Helena stated firmly and almost convincingly. �I want you to leave.� �Fine I�ll go. But you get this straight I don�t wish that child of yours any harm.� �Then prove it by leaving and never returning.� Without saying a word Helena placed her hand on her grandsons cheek and then walked away. Nikolas watched her step onto the elevator before walking back down the hall and into the room. He walked over and stood above his child. �I�ll protect you and you�re mother with my life.� He stated before bending down and picking up the child. The baby cooed softly at Nikolas� touch and the two of them made their way over to the chair where they spent the rest of the night sound asleep in each others arms. ~*~ ~ Ned and Alexis� hotel room ~ Ned walks out of the bathroom and looks down at Alexis who is still sound asleep in the middle of the bed. He sits down next to her and pushes her hair away from her face. �Hey there sleepy head time to rise and shine.� Alexis stirs slightly and pushes him away. �Um just five more minutes please.� �Now is that anyway to treat the father of your children and oh so loving husband?� Ned joked. �Husband!� Alexis yells as she sits up. �Yea that would be me. Remember you and I saying I do in a quiet little...........� �No you don�t understand!� �Understand what Alexis?� Ned asked confusingly. �Stefan, the other day when he told me it was you who was responsible for the takeover he referred to you as my husband.� �Are you sure?� �Yes he said that husband of yours.� She looks him in the eyes. �I know he did.� �So he knows we got married.� Ned says as he kisses her on the cheek. �Don�t worry about soon enough the whole town will know.� �But Ned what if he tells you�re family?� She asked panicking. �Great then he�ll save me the trouble of having to do so myself.� �Ned you said you didn�t want them to know.� �Only because I didn�t want them hassling you or causing you any unneeded stress.� Alexis looked around the room. �Do you think maybe we could stay here until after the twins are born?� �If you�d like but they�d probably find us anyway.� �Yea I guess you�re right.� Ned smiled at Alexis and took her hands in his. �What do you say we forget about Stefan and my family and go see that gorgeous grand nephew of yours.� �Sounds great but I�m starved.� �I�ll order up breakfast, while you take a shower� He replied as he got off the bed and walked over to the phone. Alexis crawled out of bed as well and walked towards the bathroom. �By the way how did we end up in bed? The last thing I remember is us talking on the couch.?� �Trust me it wasn�t easy.� Ned stated before placing their order. Alexis stood in front of the bathroom mirror and closed her eyes. �I�d really like to know how Stefan found out about our marriage.� �Yes that will be all.� He replied before hanging up. �Does it really matter how he found out, the point is he did.� Alexis walked out of the bathroom. �I thought you were gonna take a shower.� �I�m not feeling very well.� She carefully sat on the bed. �Maybe I'll take one after breakfast.� �As long as it�s the baby that�s not making you feel well and not how you�re brother found out.� �I wonder if he�s been following us?� �Alexis drop it.� �Ned doesn�t it bother you in the least that he knows?� �Yes it does!� She looks up at him. �Because you�re getting stressed out about it.� �I just don�t like the fact that he�s been following us.� �Who says he has?� �Well then how else would he know?� �Right about now I could care less if Stefan Cassidine or anybody else was following us.� He sat down next to her and grabbed her hand. �The sun is shinning. Emily and Nikolas just had a beautiful baby boy. My wife is seven and a half months pregnant.� He looked deep into her eyes. �And I couldn�t be happier.� Alexis pulled her hand out of his grasp and gave him a hug. ~*~ |
